Re: Anyone driving a TDI??
Hi, I have had a Bora SE 115 Golf Plus 140GT, Passat Sport 130, Golf 1.9 105 and a Passat S 140 and now a Roc 140. Generally please with the car best indicated consumption 62.5mpg on a trip from Glasgow to home 30 miles of which 10 in urban Averaging about an indicated 55mpg. Only thing I find a problem is with a slight baulking I get when the car reaches about 1100/1200 RPM but only on light throttle, say up a slight incline in 6th. Its OK when you drive through this rev range at heavier throttle. Seems to be just at the range the turbo starts to spin up. Its going in to get this checked out tomorrow. Maybe I am being to light on the throttle and need to drive it a bit more forcefull

Re: Anyone driving a TDI??
TDIs need to be revved. Excluding 1st and 2nd gear, there is hardly any power below 1800rpm when the turbo kicks in. Sitting at 1200rpm is fine to maintain a constant speed on the flat or downhill, but if you want to accelerate or climb a hill, you might want to drop it down a gear or 2.
My uncle got a Diesel Vectra just after he passed his test, and wondered why it had no go - he thought the engine was screaming if he took it beyond 1500 revs. It was torture watching him trying to climb a steep hill in 5th gear at 30mph!
Around the doors I get 48mpg with the aircon on and 50mpg with it off. On a motorway run at a constant 80mph cruise speed, I can get 55-57mpg.
