VW considering a Scirocco Bluemotion

Post by Kev »

Volkswagen is considering an ultra-efficient Bluemotion version of the Scirocco.

The eco brand will be extended to a number of new models over the next few years and the Scirocco would be the first application on a car with sporting credentials.

Also being lined up for eco treatment are the Passat CC and Tiguan SUV.

Changes to the Scirocco are expected to include the fitment of a small diesel engine, possibly the 104bhp 1.6 TDI from the Golf Bluemotion, aerodynamic tweaks, low resistance tyres and different gear ratios.

These alterations would help to improve economy, emissions and reduce road tax.

A Scirocco Bluemotion is “being looked into” and will join a raft of new eco models, a VW source told Autocar.
Sounds a bit all show and no go!

I really don’t see the need for this addition to the range.

On a personal level if I was thinking of getting a bluemotion vehicle I would go for the golf which is far more practical.

Yes the Scirocco is the more stylish option.

But you would also have to suffer the indignity of witnessing Chavs creaming there pants after leaving you for dust in there 1.2 Corsas every time you went to the shops.

Think there might be more value in producing more units for the models in the existing range of Rocs rather than introducing more versions that you won't be able to get unless you have the patience of a saint.

Skin and rice pudding come to mind.

It will be interesting to see what sort of front end they give the Scirocco given the change to the Polo with minimal slat openings, aka smoothed.
