Various SD/SDHC playback problems on my RCD510

Post by samplehead »

Hello,
I have the RCD510 Dynaudio package in my car, but without the MDI option so I can not use USB sticks. I have discovered some anoying bugs with the SD/SDHC playback. The first problem is related to the random play or the "mix" function on the stereo. It seams like the unit only random the songs from the folder I curently have choosed and will not play song from other folders, even though I have checked the "play subfolder option". Normaly I creat different folders for different kind of music, like pop, rock, etc. and I would like the possibility to random play songs from all the folders I have created.
I also noticed that even using the random function in the same folder, it not work very random. Instead it seams to pick a file that start with the letter "a" and then countinue with a file starting with letter "b" and so on.
The third problem I have is with playlist files. I am using Windows Media Player to create playlists and sometimes the unit is having problems reading the files. I have noticed that .m3u playlists seams to work a little bit better than the WMP native format, but sometimes it can not read .m3u as well.
I am guessing that all this bugs are software related and could probably be fixed with a firmware update. However, I have not been able to find any firmware to the RCD510, only to the RNS510. Is there anyone else that noticed those problems on their units?
Finally I have a question about the SDHC cards. Yesterday I bought a 8GB SDHC card from Transcend and I found it to work very well and was not as slow to scan at I expected. I didn't want to buy anything bigger, because there still seam to be some peoples that are having issues with SDHC cards, even though it seams like most of the RCD510 units are able to play them. Now I am thinking of getting a bigger card but would like to know if anyone successfully tried a 32GB SDHC card and can give suggestion on brand?
Thanks

Hi there,

With regards the issue of "mix" play through various folders: The RCD510 will only consider folders within the folder that you are in when you select "Mix". So to get around this you can just add a song to the root directory. Then when you put the SD card in the RCD510, if you play this song and then select "Mix", the unit should then randomly play songs from all the folders on the card! Hope that made sense...

And as for the mix function selecting songs that are close to each other alphabetically, I have noticed the same issue, but only for the first couple of songs after starting the mix. after that it seems to "settle down" and select random songs from anywhere from the card!

Hope that helps, good luck!

Thanks for the tips about the folders, m8. When you think about it, it kind of make sense that you have to put at least 1 song in the root folder.

hello!

I use the Sandisk 16gb SDHC card in my rcd510. It's been discussed in another thread here. Search for it and you'll find....
