At least it's less expensive if you get it wrong, and easier to trade in for a new model.
I'm buying second hand, one of the 17 Scirocco 2.0 TSI GT's with leather, satnav, and parking sensors showing on the VW site today, under £25,000.
So.... only 17 to choose from...but how do I decide?
Colour?
12 year old son says white or viper green. But I'm 55, and have no tattoos or gold chains.
Wife says black, but she doesn't have to clean it.
I say Rising Blue (there's loads of them) or Pewter Grey, but I have no imagination.
Manual or DSG?
Never driven an auto until I test drove a DSG the other day. Quite neat. But the other car's a manual and the wife will get confused. Is the DSG worth the extra?
Sunroof
Top Gear says "Avoid the glass roof – it makes the cabin an echo chamber". True or false? Others say it lightens up the cabin. Who's right?
Someone please make the decision for me. You can be my best man.

I can help you to narrow it down (or is it the opposite?)
The story about the sunroof is complete twaddle - it's been discussed and dismissed in an earlier thread.
If you want a glass roof,go for it - I love mine.

colour: avoid green, your too old imo
Trans: manual
Sunroof: do you like the 'tilt' look? If your tempted by white go for it, looks good on the light colours. I doubt it adds anything except looks.

i would disagree, i have a manual, but the dsg is very good, and my next VW will be an automatic.
As for the colour, rising blue is nothing special, black is quite nice, red is also very nice ( surprisingly ) forget about white being 'chavvy' the world has moved on from the 80's!
plus points to go for are the tyre pressure monitor, dynaudio ( big difference ), and rear sensors if your reversing is iffy ( although you get used to it eventually ), xenons would also be nice.

I drove a DSG in white with sunroof today...
Stunning.
>>>forget about white being 'chavvy'
I have.
>>>the world has moved on from the 80's!
There are some who might dispute that. Bring back the Delorean...
The Pewter Grey in the showroom was v, smart.
The Reflex Silver looked like a multitude of other silver cars.
And Rising Blue is as common as muck.
So, it's sorted. white or grey.... now i just need to find one.

KeefyP: If you've seen Pewter in the showroom, ask to see it outside. In natural light it looks more of an Icy blue than a grey, and looks even better.
I was sold on it in the showroom, but seeing it outside was even better. White is a good choice too, but there are so many around - that may put you off.

Sunroof: Yes. Looks great from the outside and makes the interior much lighter.
DSG: Yes. I still can't believe how good it is.
Colour: I went for white, yes it's common and it gets dirty quickly but it suits the Scirocco. I think the lighter colours do. IMHO you lose some of the curves with darker colours.
