Tailgate will not open using the keyfob but OK with the lever inside the driver door. Any deas as to why?

At a guess, it is not the central locking switch activated so passenger door and tailgate are locked?

On our Polo, I have to double click the fob to unlock passenger door and tailgate.

I'm sure you're aware but when opening the tailgate using the keyfob you need need to press and hold the middle button for a few secs for it to open. Have you tried it with the 2nd keyfob?

This happened to me for about a month last year. I couldn't figure out what was causing it, but it just fixed itself out of the blue. Recognise that's not a useful response but at least there's hope!
