Side light not working

Post by RichZTT »

I’ve got a problem with the near side sidelight, I’ve changed the bulb but it’s not coming on. I’ve followed the instructions in the manual but that didn’t work, should I try a multimeter to check there’s a current to the bulb?

The indicator in that cluster is working fine btw.

The sidelight circuit has a current monitor on it and if the current is not within defined limits when the diagnostics are run, when you switch the ignition on, , the circuit is shut down by the control module. The circuit expects to see a 5W load, therefore just connecting a multimeter across the terminals of the bulb holder to measure the voltage may not work as there won't be enough load to allow the circuit to operate as the multimeter is seen as a high impedance.

Double check the connections on the bulb holder and confirm they are not corroded and if you are comfortable they are good and the bulb is good, disconnect the battery temporarily to reset the control module and try again

They do look corroded unfortunately, I will attempt disconnecting the battery and try again! Thanks Bob

It might be worth just replacing the bulb holder.

Where would you get one from? The part number would be a massive help if you know it?

Bulb holder and harness for pre-facelift sidelight is 8D0971273

Dealer, TPS or Ebay.

Other option is to use try a generic 501 w5w bulb holder off Ebay.

I take it I would snip off the old bulb holder and solder the new one on?
