Help needed please! -Window fault

Post by Toby.cridland »

Hi All,

If anyone could shed some light on this fault I have that would be amazing.

I'll start from the beginning...

In the petrol station the other day and as a got back into the car and shut the door the window did not move to its standard setting.... instead it stayed 2" from the top as if the door were open.

I tried to move the window switch up and down and no movement. The only thing was when I moved it down there was a clicking noise near the motor. ( It only clicked once when you pressed it)

I've tried to disconnect the battery to reset it, VW also replaced the motor itself and nothing.

Has anyone experienced anything like this?

Things to note:

1. Ive had a weak battery for a while now and have had to jump the car a couple of times. Could it be the weak battery??? I havent been able to change since covid.

2. I have sequential indicators installed on my car. Would this effect it? ( VW seem to think it is) I had them installed 3 months ago.

Any suggestions would be great...

Cheers

It could just be a low battery. The sequential indicators shouldnt have any impact on the windows.

First thing id try is replace the battery if u cant get hold of one id try get someone to connect jump leads, while their car is running turn your ignition on but dont started the car and attempt to roll up ur windows if that works. well you've found ur problem.

If you cant hear the motor id locate the fuse n test to see if there is any volts, if not pull the fuse n inspect it to see if it has blown if so replace the fuse with the same amp rating fuse. The fuse would be on the side of the dash cant remember if its on the passenger side or drivers side but a quick google search and you'll find it.

If not my next move would be removing the door card and test the voltage at the motor when the switch is in the up and down position (using a multimeter) if there are no volts my next bet would be testing the switch itself

Im not great at the electrical side of things but iv been studying quite a bit so someone please correct me if im wrong. but that should give you some sort of idea of what the problem is. Im assuming ur motor is new and the mechanism is correct so that you window is not seized

So ignore what i said about the indicators because apparently the fuse is a multifunction fuse but again if the indicators are working i wouldnt see why it would effect the widow

Check your battery. Connect a voltage meter across your terminals. When you start the car the battery voltage should not drop below 10-10.5 volts. Cold crank voltage.

If it does like mine did. It can mess with the windows. Mine would not return to the full up after the door was opened and it was lazy on start up.

New battery (not cheap as it’s the stop start (AGM). But all good.

Just a suggestion that you can check before you buy or pay to investigate.
