Dynaudio...Worth it...??

Post by kenny..c »

Hi there

We are considering a possible car change in the near future to replace our R56 Mini Cooper S and whilst looking through the options list have seen the Dynaudio audio upgrade.....have any members of the forum heard the standard system and compaired it to the Dynaudio system...?? Is it worth the money...??

Any opions or thoughts would be great

Thanks
Ken

The standard audio is very good IMO, however after hearing the Dynaudio I would say yes it is worth it if you like your music!

dynaudio is defo worth it, having a few cars in our work without it seem a bit lame, well pleased with the set up and how you can get clear bass notes from the front

My A4 had the Bose 10 speaker stereo in it which I always thought was pretty good. It wasn't until I got the Roc with the standard set up that I realsied how good the Bose setup was!!

The bass is very lacking on the standard stereo setup.

I have the dynaudio too and compared to my last car (rav 4 with standard stereo) it has made a REAL difference! Even my mate who has his car stuffed with subs and amps and other shit that goes beyond my understanding said he was impressed with the system, really pleased with it

Definately worth the money.Just be aware as with any "proper" hifi loudspeakers they take several hours of use to reach their full potential. When I first had mine I was impressed but a little dissapointed - after a couple of weeks and a few tweaks to the set up I find it outstanding .

Interesting question as I am thinking the same thing in my new Roc - picked it up under two weeks ago so interesting to hear comments about bedding the speaker in. I have not bothered going for the CD changer, instead opting to just plug my iPod in so maybe that makes a difference? Turned off all the EQ on the iPod which is a little better but I am sure the BOSE I had in an Audi a few years back was better.

Worth it i says, you have to pretty much crank the mids, and the bass to maybe three quarters. Leave the treble in the middle. That's how to EQ it. The head unit isn't EQ'd specifically to the dynaudio amp and speakers is the reason for this i assume. Anyway's that's how to get great, clear sound from it. It really does sound good as well.

I think the best think with audio system is....
Get the basic one for no cash in VW. And than buy some ALPINE double din head unit and get some nice alpine or what ever brand you like speakers.... plus some small active subwoofer. and than you can get top quality sound for less money....
And if your are really in to perfect sound than buy IMPRINT processor from ALPINE and calibre your best sound in car...and you ll see ;)
Thats actually what i m going to do with mine when it arrives...
OK my babe is here from work out session :)

Cheers David, I cranked the EQ's like you said and the sound improved loads. The sounds when I play a CD is still much better than through my iPod but it's miles better so driving the last day has been much more fun with great sound from the speakers.

I test drove a A3 black Edition (S Line with Bose, Xenon’s, and a few other bits) before deciding on roc, I'm afraid the Bose wins hands down, they had my hair on the back of my neck standing on end with the high notes and the bass felt deep inside my chest. i was very impressed. So i went for the Dynaudio in the hope, unfortunately i was disappointed, but i do agree with the comment above, I’ve only had it a week (1000 miles already) and they have improved so I’m less disappointed now, but IMHO not half as good as the Bose in the A3.

I'd agree with the comment above. The Dynaudio is good, and effortlessly loud, but it seems to lack some definition on a lot of tunes. If i had to choose again i'd still get it, but i'm not surprised to hear that bose/b&o systems are a lot better.

Thanks for the tip David, will try it tomorrow.

I might be showing my lack of knowledge, but there's no way I'd consider replacing the head. The standard head unit in the Scirocco is by far the best interface I've seen in any in any car so far.

I have the standard sound system and I have added a 12" Kenwood Sub + a Kenwood Amp.
I think it compensates very well for the lack of decent low range in the small but otherwise good speakers of the original sound system.

I'm very satisfied with the results and I've had very good responses from people who have a clue about sound systems.
Most find it hard to believe that other then the sub everything else is original.
The sound in the original is crisp and clear like you would expect from quality after market brands.

I think my investment in the sound system was less then I would pay for the dynaudio (counting the 16G SD card I've added  )

I have the Dynaudio and it's fantastic with CDs and higher bitrate (256kbps+) mp3s via the ipod. I have also had a tinker with the EQ settings and no doubt that after about 10 hours use the system is still 'running in' but for me it's definately worth the extra few quid.
