My 2010 2.0 TSI manual gearbox has some issues I’m hoping an oil change will help with, but wanted to see if there are any other suggestions/experiences. (80k miles)
Basically when the box is cold (esp in cold weather) it’s a bit stiff and for the first few changes between 1,2,3 it feels like metal hitting metal but is generally fine when it’s warmed up.
Occasionally even when warm it’ll feel like it kinda pops into gears (2/3) without the smoothness you’d expect - this effect is lessened if you take more time pulling it out of one gear and into another. I’m not sure if that’s a telltale sign for anything?
Not sure if I’m doing something wrong, but if I were then I’d expect it to be consistent. Like I say I’m gonna get the oil changed with genuine vw stuff, but bit worried about it so I am grateful for any advise.
Cheers

Re: Manual gearbox issues 2010
Hi. I had these issues when i first got my rocco tdi. I had the oil changed by vw but still no difference when cold. It really didnt like 1st gear when cold. So i contacted the scirocco north east owners club about this problem and one guy told me to change to a short shift gear mechanism. On Ebay for around £50 for a descent one. 10 minute fix located under the air filter box. Never had a problem since. And it feels really sporty with less throw on the gear change. Hope it helps.

That’s very interesting to hear, would be amazing if that’s a fix. Any idea why that resolves it?Deanrocco wrote:Hi. I had these issues when i first got my rocco tdi. Re: Manual gearbox issues 2010
Im actually not sure why its a fix. Maybe a fluke, but i was over the moon with the fix as i was thinking i had been jipped with the car and was gonna have to spend ££££s on a new gear box. Good luck

Re: Manual gearbox issues 2010
First thing I would suggest is to try adjusting the gear linkage.

Re: Manual gearbox issues 2010
I had ruled that out because whatever the cause is doesn't affect it 100% of the time, and read that if the linkages needed adjustment then it would be a problem all the time.Cuprabob wrote:First thing I would suggest is to try adjusting the gear linkage.
Would you say it's still worth considering?
Cheers!

Hadn't realised how easy (looks at least!) it is to adjust the linkages, may be worth a shot
