2.0 tsi coil pack.

Post by lloydie63 »

Hopefully getting a 2.0 tsi in the next few weeks and just looking on various sties as to possible problems and what to look for, any body had the coil pack problem as post in this link on the 2.0tsi and would it be possible to spot this problem with just a routine look in the engine bay?

You normally can't see anything visually if a coilpack fails unless it's burnt out. When a coilpack failsm car misfire,s runs badly and puts on the EML so easy to spot

I wouldn't worry about it though as they are relatively cheap to replace

Coil pack issues are a new one on me. Not reported widely so I don't think this is anything to be too concerned with.

Coilpacks are the most common failure on petrol VAG cars. Much better these days than they used to be so Rocco hasn't really been affected.

VAG had to do a service bulletin / recall to check and replace all coilpacks on pre-2008 cars with engines over 1.8 litres. My 2006 R32 had all 6 replaced FOC and I know other people with cars right back to 2003 getting replaced FOC.

Nothing too much to worry about with the Rocco

I see, thanks Cuprabob for the clarification, my Scirocco is the first VAG vehicle I have owned so was not really aware of previous histories.

I'd be more wary of injectors failing but then my engine is different to yours!

Since march 2014 I have had two packs replaced ( 1 and 3 ) I am running Bluefin stage1, would be really good to know if remaps are causing the coil pack failures (2011-2.0ltr tsi-dsg)
Dealer wouldn't replace 2 and 4 saying there's nothing wrong with them, but as I said to him, 'for two to fail in just over a month must be saying something about the reliability of these things'
I had the second one replaced F.O.C as a goodwill gesture as my warranty expired 19th April. But he insisted if it happens again I will have to pay ?

Can anyone tell me how expensive the packs are?
I googled and I think you can buy them from £10ish and they up to £50 etc
Could you also advise which ones to use as well? I got a mechanic to look at it and number 1 showed a fault so it was replaced and my 100k mile car ran like new but the issue has appeared back. I was told injectors could be going as well but the coils are the first place to replace.

OEM Coils from a dealer or TPS are around £30 each and they come with a 2 year warranty.
