Aircon leak

Post by Rabidweasel »

Hi all,

So while i was having the dreaded cambelt and water pump change the other day i asked them to take a look at my aircon as it seems the gas needs changing every 8 months or so. They can spot a leak with the pipes when they used their blacklight and said to replace the pipes, as they go into the bulkhead, won't be a cheap job.

Anyone else had any experiences with the aircon leaking and this sort of issue? I've got the 2010 140 TDI (well it was when standard ;) )

Often it's the A-C condenser that starts to leak. Its the first cooler on front of the car so much debris and dirt hitting it.

Thanks for the reply. Any idea how much that would cost and if it's worth checking the local scrappy's for second hand ones?

I've also had to have a Condenser replaced but thankfully it was a manufacturing error and it was replaced under warranty.

Literally just had mine done. Was 230 fitted and 110 diagnosis and regas. Did it next day so didn't think it was too bad. Like someone else said it's a terrible design. Big honeycomb grill that offers no protection to the very fragile condenser behind it. Might see if I can get a smaller grille to go inbetween of it's not too big a job
