Yup and my steering wheel has developed a really loud creak. I know where it’s coming from as if I shove my finger in the space beside the steering lever it stops. To be fair, my whole Roc creaks and rattles especially when it’s cold.

this week I have been noticing all sorts of REALLY annoying rattles etc from my R, especially from the back/boot area. I read the threads about the rubber boot hatch thingys and I adjusted them but it made no difference. In the end what fixed it was I sprayed all my hinges and lock mechs with white grease, all my rattles have now gone.

It's reassuring to know so many of us are in the same boat! Mine has had three rattles from new - two are from the padded headlining just above the doors, where the grab-handles are. These can be reduced by applying pressure to push the padding up. The third is from behind the centre of the dash (somewhere around the three dials) and occurs intermittently around 2,500 rpm. I asked VW to look into it this week, but of course they couldn't trace it...

There was a post on here recently about a rattle/creak from behind the 3 dials, turns out it was the pipes for the heater ,VW sorted it

Thanks - that's handy to know. My best guess was that it was the 'soundaktor' resonating at a particular engine frequency - more of a raspy, fizzy sort of a sound - but it's handy to have other possibilities to investigate.

Hope you manage to source the cause of your noises anyway. The worry, of course, is that by removing and replacing the dash you end up creating more squeaks or rattles in the process!
