Hello guys,
I'm looking to top up my oil in my 2009 2.0TSI DSG. I've got Total Quartz 5w-30 in my possession, the oil that is currently in the car is also 5w-30 according to the previous owner, but I'm not sure if it's the same brand. This is a safe bet to pour into the motor ?
Should I also start topping it up now (check the dipstick). How much ml should I fill it ? Also the color on the dipstick seems still to be light brown which refers to it not being to old iirc. Last oil change was aug 2017

Re: 2.0 TSI Engine oil
As long as the grade is the same there is no issue with mixing different brands. As they are both 5w30 then it will be fine. VW recommends that the oil should meet VW504.00 / VW507.00 specification.
Minimum to maximum on the dipstick is circa 1 litre. Not that I have had to top up mine between services but I would do it 250ml at a time giving some time for it to drain to the sump before re-creating and adding more if needed.

I would certainly move up to 5w40 oil at your next oil change, but you can top up with anything decent really.
