So this started today. On my drive to work this morning I noticed a slight blip from the engine while idling, kind of like it was missing a beat. This happened a few times. On my way home it worsened. While idling it was happening every few seconds and it seemed to judder up to around 2000 rpm. When I accelerated fairly hard it felt and sounded like it lost fire on a cylinder, the emission light started flashing but this went off after 30 seconds or so. Also it will not rev over 4000 rpm. I have a basic code reader so I plugged it in and no codes came up. Any ideas guys?
It’s a 2.0 TSi, 2011 with 37500 Miles. Engine is totally standard.

Re: 2.0 TSi Missfire Issue
Most common fault to cause misfires is a faulty coilpack. Check all 4 are plugged in securely incase one has popped up from the plug. Might also worth chucking a new set of plugs at it if they haven't been changed recently.

Cheers I’ll take a look. It’s still on the original plugs but they will be getting replaced on Monday when it goes in for it’s major service. Are they individual coils for each plug or is it one piece?
Thanks.
Thanks.

One on each plug, so 4 in totalAndy Rocc wrote:Cheers I’ll take a look. It’s still on the original plugs but they will be getting replaced on Monday when it goes in for it’s major service. Are they individual coils for each plug or is it one piece?

Make sure they do change the plugs as part of the major service as there is small print that says they only change them if required and the service interval is 60k miles for plugs. The whole minor / major service at VW dealers is a bit deceiving. I always just get a minor and tell them what items to change on top.

Re: 2.0 TSi Missfire Issue
Just had a look at the coils and 2 of them did press down further than they were. Started it up and it seemed fine however it wasn’t at normal running temp so I’ll see how it goes on my drive to work in the morning.
Well I’ve paid for a 2 year service plan so they will be changing plugs or I’ll be kicking off!

Re: 2.0 TSi Missfire Issue
Mention the plugs to them aswell as that could also be a reason for the misfire. IF the car is remapped you may need colder plugs.
But yes typically it will be coil packs. I think they are about 30quid each etc but you will only need one.
Plug and play but the garage can do it

Re: 2.0 TSi Missfire Issue
The drive to work was a little better the following day but the misfire was still there. After reading lots of info on the net and on here, the finger was pointing at a faulty coil pack. Being 90% certain I nipped in to Awesome GTi while out in the work van and picked up a full set of Audi R8 coil packs (cheaper than vw ones), dropped them in, drove home that evening all was fine. Could probably have just replaced the one but if that was on its way out it wouldn’t have long before the others started giving up.
Thanks guys.
