Broken volume knob, 2 months warranty left

Post by SciroccoCW »

So it turns out the plastic casing surrounding the volume knob has a split which causes the casing to be loose and pull off.

I called VW Lancaster in Letchworth (my local) and they told me I would have to leave my car with them all day?!?!?! :eyepop:  :grumpy: Just because they need to take some photos and send them off to see if it will be covered under warranty or if it will be classed as wear and tear... They also said that if it wasnt covered by warranty then it would be a £72 diagnostics fee plus quote for the part... and if my insurance doesnt cover driving a courtesy car then I'd have to pay £12..

REALLY? This really seems like a joke  Not only do I have to leave my car all day, It might not be covered under the warranty so I'd have to fork out some dumb amount of money..

Welcome to the joys of Volkswagen ownership...

If I were you I would go back to the Toyota dealer that you bought the car from amd have them fix it unless you've broke it since Friday.

Yeah I gave up on VW Lancaster in Letchworth. Called Toyota, popping it in Saturday for them to look at it and order the part, nice and easy.

And no I didn't break it >.< I was driving it home on the day I picked it up and turned the volume knob and noticed it, but at the time I wasn't going to drive back to the garage in rush hour, and figured VW would solve it for me under the last 2 months of the manufacturer warranty!

This is bizarre, how can there be a 'diagnostics fee' for something so blatantly obvious. Does not make sense. Yes - hopefully the Toyota garage can fix it for you simply.

Yes I'm not sure if I was talking to someone that had no idea or not. But yes Toyota seemed to think it would be quick and simple

Is this the sort of dealer attitude which needs to be reported to Milton Keynes as a"trust issue" or am I being remarkably naive here ?
Perhaps the manufacturer is relying on customers voting with their feet to keep these franchise holders in line? Seems an A about F way of going about it though.

Fingers crossed the Toyota guys do the right thing for you.
