Real world mpg???

Post by vintage67 »

Hi All,

First post and hoping you can help me decide which model to buy. I've had VAGs for the last 20yrs, one of which was a Corrado. I've been driving a Mk4 PD130 with a few mods inc remap, exhaust, suspension, brakes but sold it last year. Before that I had a modded S3 and prior to that was my modded Corrado. Now my kids are grown up I want to get back to coupe driving.
So I've been looking for a Scirocco and not sure whether to get a petrol or diesel.
Kind of put off a diesel with the EGR replacement cost that could happen at any time (£650?? :eyepop: ) so think a petrol could be a viable option.

I do 250-300/week. 75% motorway/dual carriageway and the rest shorter/town driving. I reckon I'd get around 50mpg from a diesel (I was getting this with my old PD Golf); however, I could live with 35mpg from a petrol with better performance and (hopefully) less potential bills.

So looking for some help on what mpg you guys are getting in the real world to help me decide and join the Scirocco family? :?

cheers,

Kev

Average around 28 in my R over 10,000 miles so the 2.0 petrol sounds your best bet if you don't want a diesel

I do mostly city driving and get around 11-13L/100km (that's 20-18mpg)
I don't drive it that hard, i mean i do have some full throttle sprints but mostly you're stuck in traffic.

Mixed driving, i average around 8-9L/100km (around 30mpg) but it gets driven quite happily.
My best effort was 5.8L/100km (40mpg) but i drove pretty slow (I mean, as indicated by road signs and speed limits :eyepop: )

Worst cosumption: 30km hard driven, like hard! 16L/100km (14mpg).

My 2nd trip computer shows me an average of 20mpg all round, as i said mostly city driving.

Have a 2010 2.0 Gt with Stage 1 (Revo)

Just got 39.5 going about 45 miles into the middle of Birmingham and back, wasn't driving particularly frugally but the M6 was switching between 50-60 MPH. AC was off.

Get about 28 driving to work all start stop traffic.

Mine's a 2009 2.0 TSI with Revo Stage 1. Get around 29mpg driving around town, but around 40 on motorway/dual carriageway driving 60-70mph. Mpg drops off pretty quickly above this speed.

I only use V Power unleaded so about £60 for a fill-up.

 thanks for the feedback guys. Like others I only use the highest grade petrol/diesel as I've found you get more mpg and it's better for the engine so worth the extra cost.
From the above it seems I could get around 35mpg from the petrol so definitely an option. Will keep looking for the right car and now have more scope to find one - the final decision will be more about the whole package, condition, cost, mileage etc and not just engine. Will post pics when I get one :)

I was going to post identical figures. Seconded on what he said, it's worth the extra fuel as it's not a diesel

Yes - about 35/36mpg average so long as the right foot is kept under control (2.0 TSI). As mentioned it is quite easy to get above 40mpg if in 6th gear cruising 60'ish mph.

That's from a rush hour jaunt down the M60/62 the other day, 25 miles with a mix of town, stop start (about 3 miles worth minimum) average speed check and then a little hoon at the end.

This topic is about real gas mileage not what your cluster shows. Or do you have corrected the consumption with vcds.

I've checked mine the old fashioned way for 5 fills when I 1st got it, at most it was 2mpg out and that was after a tank that was drained after a lot of spirited driving.

Not worked out my mpg. But full tank to empty will give me consistently 300 miles. Nearly all city driving. 2.0 TSI
