Buying first used scirocco

Post by gary8ynwa »

Hi this is my first time ever posting so forgive me if i screw it up :) .

I just thought this would be the best place to ask. Well i am your typical skint student but love cars and currently drive a seat leon which i like a lot. 8)

But i'm a sucker for a scirocco and am stubborn so have my eyes firmly set on one and am saving just wanted to know if it is worth buying one with over 100,000 miles i've seen these go from 7-8k but i don't know if its worth spending that kinda money with something with such high miles or just hold off temptation and wait till i can get something fresher.

Any thought or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

If it was me I wouldn't go for it being over 100.000 miles
But it's all up to you
Check see if it has new parts in it like clutch timing belt Eg

Buy a car on history and condition. Mileage is just a number. Many high mileage examples spend most of their life cruising on the motorway and receive a much easier life than low mileage examples that spend all their life around town or doing a few miles as day and not reaching operating temperature.

Exactly that. Mines classed as high miles now but runs better than ever and is immaculate.

There she is filthy and with a snotty snow filled nose from this morning's drive to work.

Assuming you're after a diesel mind? Mines a 2.0 TSI...

Sorry to hijack thread but i am also torn between which scirocco to buy, it will be a used 2.0 petrol but the gearbox is where the decision lies.
the DSG or the manual.
I drove the DSG today and was blown away with the semi-auto, but the lack of a clutch pedal felt very alien.
I will test drive a manual tomorrow to compare
Also i understand they should be serviced every 40,000 miles buy the dealer so just weighing up the options at the minute.

thanks

You'll get used to not having a clutch pedal in a few days. Would not let that put you off.

Just be careful on the drive home, I went for the clutch in the services car park and almost put myself through the windscreen haha

Yes there is a classified section but I believe you need a certain amount of posts before it magically appears. I don't know the actual number but it's not a lot.

1. Cam chain tensioner - have a search on the forum, loads of info.
2. DSG requires oil and filter every 40k miles.
3. Rear tyres are prone to sawtooth wear pattern and can drone / rumble sounding like a faulty wheel bearing.
