Impact of self service

Post by rsmagee »

Hi guys,

Got a MY10 Scirocco GT 210 running stage 1 revo.

I am more than confident to do both the minor and major service item myself, and as well as the cost savings like the idea of knowing what has been used on my car.

My question is will this ruin the resale value of my car or are we talking a small amount. Car is at 78,000 miles and I want to keep it for a few more years so I know it wont be worth a lot, I just dont want to see myself out of thousands.

Specifically I am thinking when trying to trade it in as deposit on a new car.

Thanks, Rob!

I'm guessing by the time you trade it in it will have over 100k on the clocks so a self service (with receipts to back everything up) is unlikely to hurt the price much. As you say you plan on keeping it a few more years it will fundamentally be a 10 yr old car with 100,000 miles on it. Most car of that age don't have a service history at all so you should be fine.

I have the same thought, but write everything down or make an excel file or something so you can show what service has been done and when.

Good points and ideas! Thanks :)

Gearing up to try an intake carbon clean so will get it all done then, should be interesting!

As long as you keep a record of what was done when and receipts to prove that OEM or better quality parts were used, then I don't see an issue especially at that age / mileage of car.

Looking at the price of oil, is Castrol or Mobil one really worth the extra over something like Gulf? Surely synthetic oil of a specific grade is pretty much the same between brands?

VW will specify a standard for the oil. If the oil you choose has this standard then it'll be OK. A quick google says it's VW504.00 or 507.00. http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/roccop ... e=What_Oil" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I wouldn't pay the premium to use mobil one on a road car.
