Decided to let the roc go at 90k miles !

Pretty sure on switching to the GTD . Has anyone had any experience of a similar swap , mk7 GTD of course !

I'd be wary of switching to a diesel at the moment, all i've seen in the news this week is how the government seems to want to ban diesel cars from certain cities like they have in mainland Europe

But i do hate diesels (and yes i have owned one before), unless you do mega milage the modern TSi's are pretty damn good with their fuel, i get mid 30 mpg in my 2.0 TSi on my 20 mile commute everyday, and that's not driving like your Nan either

90k isn't really high for a Diesel honestly, but I understand going to a facelift. also, the government news is just news and speculation it isn't going to happen fast! let's be honest how are they exactly going to ban them all? besides who the hell wants to drive in a city? I live just outside London, my roc has never and will never drive into the centre!

They've done this in quite a few European cities now effectively, plate recognition picks you up and you receive a fine in the post

in the uk that means 90% of the taxis gone and nearly all of the VANS and Lorrys you see in a city also gone!

Who the hell would be in a city in a vehicle after that! lol

I got rid of my derv Scirocco a few weeks back for a Mk7 Golf. Though my brief foray with derv meant that I'll never have another derv again. No idea why so many people choose them unless doing starship miles. My new Golf is a R!

Was also reading that VW plans to stop making diesel engines under 2.0 by 2020 as they believe there will be no demand and the costs involved in making them pass emissions standards will make them too expensive.

They're saying the future is small petrol hybrids.

Test drove a manual GTD for 3 days in November, nice car great out of town on rural / motorway drives but it was a pain in the arse around town hated the manual box in town ( I love my DSG ) and the manual and the stupid electronic parking brake does not work, what a stupid combination give me a proper handbrake anytime.
Pondering a Golf GTE as I think there is some real merit in hybrid / electric cars, will test drive it through car perk scheme at work. Daily commute is 10 miles each way so could be done in electric only mode - no petrol costs for work which seems worth a look.
May also look at new 1.5 petrol Golf as work scheme limited to 120 CO2 hence no test of V8 Mustang

One of our Sales guys at work just picked up a Passat GTE as his company car, and he is a massive Petrol head and he loves it

They are fecking expensive though, something like £35k for his, though he bought an ex-demonstrator so got a good chunk off the list price, but again i think you'd have to be doing mega mileage to make it worth the premium up front price

Oh, don't forget though, electrickery ain't free you know

Aye true but a lot cheaper than petrol.
The deal thru work includes insurance, servicing, repairs, road tax (if ant), tyres, breakdowns only thing you pay for is the fuel or electricity

Yes pure electrics, you get £4500 off list, £2500 off cars above certain level of CO2.
You get the actual list off directgov website where it tells you which car gets what off list.
