Changing the Steering Badge
Few people are thinking about replacing the plain badge with one that says "GT" like in the Golf GT Editions.
This is a 2 min exercise as long as you have a strong grip, simply press the badge from either side and pull at the same time, the badge will pop out and simply pop the new one back in, see pics below... PS I had a spare GTI badge so I quickly just put it in now to show Bagwafu how easy it is and that the Steering wheels are identical to the Golfs...
Old badge removed
Old badge
Both old and new are the same size
New badge fitted

Re: Changing the Steering Badge
PS Whilst solving the rattling noise my brother noticed the cables behind the accelerator, he reckons they should be hidden or covered, can anyone please confirm for me whether or not these cable should be visible... I had the dealer replace the pedals so I'm thinking maybe they didn't tidy up properly...

Re: Changing the Steering Badge
wheres the best place to get the GT badge? VW direct or eBay?
Re: Changing the Steering Badge
They're fine. Stick some black electrical tape around them if you want to make it look a bit tidier.rehmondo wrote:PS Whilst solving the rattling noise my brother noticed the cables behind the accelerator, he reckons they should be hidden or covered, can anyone please confirm for me whether or not these cable should be visible... Re: Changing the Steering Badge
Thanks for the quick responses on the cables guys, will sleep a lot easier tonight
The Badges...
I'm not sure what VW would charge, but they go on ebay for around £18 inc P+P maybe more, which I think is steep for a bit of plastic.
If I can get the part no from one of the auctions I'll ring the dealer, the other downside for ebay is the sellers are in Germany, so I'm sure they're genuine, but if you get a part and its got a scratch or something on it, it will be a pain to send it back to Germany.
I am going to go ahead with this, I thought I had it spare but then I realised it was for a GTI, so I might stick that on ebay first then buy the GT one.

snap! works out to be 17.34 with uk shipping
Re: Changing the Steering Badge
Yup, thats the number with the A8G designation (GT Equipment level) in ETKA.dchuraman wrote:actually i think the part number is 1KO 419 685 D3Q7
I bought the badge and pedals from VW speed. If you sign up on the UK-MKIV's forum and get them to put you on the wholesale pricing you save a few quid.

Re: Changing the Steering Badge
Just go onto VW Speed website and register, when it asks for company name put in Forum. Then go onto uk mkiv's website and send vw speed a message confirming your account name. See attacheddchuraman wrote:how do you get on the wholesale pricing?
