Would there be any difference in the clutch/gearbox department between the 140 and 170 version?

Reason I'm asking is because i'm considering a remap for my 140 for a while now, stage 1: 180 bhp (185PK) and 302 ft lbs (410NM).
I've always wondered what the maximum is the clutch can take on the 140.
The remap seems appealing, but I don't really want to upgrade or wreck my clutch. :)

Thanks in advance guys! ;)

I've been trawling the 'net for most of the day on Autotrader etc and with my budget i'm initially looking for a TDi 170 2009/10 DSG, leather and less than 50k probably in rising blue.

Is there anything in particular that I should be looking out for ? Any common issues with this model ?

What kind of fuel economy will I be looking at ? 50mpg ?

one thing i will note. mines a 2009 59 plate 170 GT model. mine had the benefit of having the 2010 equipment installed from factory so i had all the new white text LCD instead of the older red / orange one.

might be worth looking for newer models if thats something you are after.

I'm pretty sure the clutch is the same in the 140 and 170, which would make sense as the torque figures are not too different.

Same as mine ... 59 plate 170 GT ... which has the whiteline dash / revised interior / etc. aka Mk6 Golf.

But like I said earlier I don't think the 170 comes with the orange / red dash? I've never seen one.

Clutch is the same.

Outright figures do not matter very much, the delivery does in terms of what a clutch can take.

Agreed. I'm impressed with the map on mine ... it is so smooth.

You need a specific number of posts. I don't know how many though

Aight, thanks mate.
So correct me if I'm wrong, but as long as the map is done 'in a good way' I shouldn't have any problems/slipping with the stock clutch at +- 302ft lbs....

It depends entirely on the state of the clutch.
I never had any slip on mine at Stage 2 at 115k miles
However my friends is slipping at Stage 2 with 75k.

If you are concerned I would replace your clutch with a Helix Organic.
Alex @ AKS Tuning can supply you one. Around £750 inc DMF. It will hold all the torque you can throw at it.

I have the 140 TDi with DSG box and my biggest regret in buying my Scirocco is buying a diesel in the first place. I honestly wish I'd bought a petrol. This is my first diesel car and it will most definitely be my last.

The car itself has been great and I do enjoy the ease of the auto box but the diesel engine just doesn't to it for me at all. Unless you're doing big miles (15k+ per year) and plan on keeping the car id be looking at petrol ones.

Also with 17 inch wheels on I get 55mpg but with my 19s on I only get 50 at most usually 1 or 2 less.
