Re: What is this sound?! (youtube clip)
not really, it all blends in with the normal engine noise when I open the bonnetRoy_01 wrote:Doesnt sound very well, cant you locate the sound under the hood?
My guess is it's to do with oil pressure as it only happens on cold starts

Maybe camshaft knocking or valve lifters?
The timing belt is also hydraulic tensioned.
I would let the engine checked to be sure.
what oil do you use?

It's a chain on the 2.0 TSIRoy_01 wrote: The timing belt is also hydraulic tensioned.
The tensioner would be my first port of call with a sound like that especially as it's a known issue on that engine.

Re: What is this sound?! (youtube clip)
I use 0w30 it has regular oil changes.
luckily it is in warranty but they've already had it in and said they fixed it.
they said there was a broken return valve so they replaced that and the next day the sound was back.
It is going in again in a couple of weeks, so we will see if they can fix it this time...

not yet, they've got it at the moment and said they can't hear the sound so I've sent them a couple of recordings for the engineer to listen to

Re: What is this sound?! (youtube clip)
So I'm still having trouble with this.
I've been looking around and it seems like it could be the dual mass flywheel?
Could it possible be an engine mount, as its coupled with a lot of vibration/movement
Anyone able to offer some thoughts on this?

Re: What is this sound?! (youtube clip)
Looks like you have DSG on the vid, What happens when you put the gear into 'D' (and keep your foot on the brake) does the noise go away?
What mileage?
Sounds like a very similar noise I had on the A3 DSG which turned out to be DMF

I get the noise at around 1100rpmtimc wrote:Looks like you have DSG on the vid, What happens when you put the gear into 'D' (and keep your foot on the brake) does the noise go away?

If left for a minute the revs drop to 900ish..rpm and the noise stops
If I put it straight into drive while it's making the noise the revs drop and it stops making the noise.
40,000 miles
think the DMF could be the problem then?

Unfortunatley, yes, it appears to be your DMF... 40k miles is not a lot though, has the DSG box ever been serviced?Harry_VW wrote:I get the noise at around 1100rpmtimc wrote:Looks like you have DSG on the vid, What happens when you put the gear into 'D' (and keep your foot on the brake) does the noise go away?

best going to a good, reputable independent to get the work done.

Re: What is this sound?! (youtube clip)
This still isn't fixed... VW have it for the third time at the moment, they are saying they cant hear anything.
I'm pretty stuck with this whole issue. The car is still in used car warranty, but it is looking like I might just have to pay to have it done.
My luck so far:
Harlow VW - Could hear the noise, said they fixed it, gave it back couple of days later the noise was back.
Harlow VW - Couldn't hear the noise.
Loughton VW - Currently cant hear the noise, I drove down there this morning so start it with the mechanic and typically the car didn't make the noise!

Re: What is this sound?! (youtube clip)
Update.
VW currently have it for the 4th time. The coil pack harness had a crack in the casing which they changed first, then the coil pack, then the spark plug and now they are saying it was the injector, which I really don't see how it can be that, i don't get any misfires and there were no codes. I think they saw the crack and are trying to pin it on that.
I'm collecting it tomorrow and I'm sure the noise will be back the next day.
My warranty runs out soon, as this is a problem that I told them about last July will they still help me out of warranty as it's effectively an unresolved claim?
Appreciate any help with this
