Scirocco knocking
My Scirocco has developed a loud knocking which I and everyone that has been in the car apart from a VW Mastertech thinks is from the rear drivers side.
I've had the car 4 years and never had a problem and now have the VW extended warranty.
I've been under the car and can't find or feel anything loose. The knocking is very, very loud, and sounds like a metal pipe banging another metal pipe.
I driven around without the spare wheel in the wheel well, ive adjusted the tailgate, ive folded the seats all makes no difference.
I think the knocking is underneath the car, it knocks when the car gets ever so slightly unsettled, camber of road, manhole, touching the brakes, only time it disappears is on a motorway but the speed probably cancels out the noise.
It's been in the dealers twice and is going in again next week for two days, the dealer acknowledges there is a loud knock and last time changed a front anti roll bar drop link
I have noticed that if the car is jacked up and lowered that the noise disappears for a day, also in the rain the noise disappears for a day. I wonder if it could be a bush.
I think the dealer is clueless and I'm not convinced that they are spending enough time to resolve the problem, I think they changed the drop link because some have failed previously in their knowledge.
The car passed its MOT last week with another garage and I asked them to give the rear suspension a good look over and they found nothing.
Anyone got any ideas??? It really is s loud knock that spoils the ownership of the car.

I don't think it is the fuel line as it is a loud knock and only when the car is unsettled, there is no 5 taps a second

Re: Scirocco knocking
I've been having a similar problem with mine since last December (I think it's coming from the rear-left on my). Every time it's been into the garage it's knocked all the way there, but no matter how many times you tell them they always lift the car and do their up-sell check first so they can never reproduce the fault.tony4147 wrote:I think the dealer is clueless and I'm not convinced that they are spending enough time to resolve the problem.
Do you tend to get only one knock per change of direction/unsettling? I had been wondering if it was the subframe shifting on mine as this can be a problem on other cars based off the Mk5 golf, but I haven't had chance to check.tony4147 wrote:Anyone got any ideas??? Check that the exhaust doesn't foul the body or back axle.

Re: Scirocco knocking
I had this - was a stone inside the arm for the suspension. Because i was under it i couldnt see it, but i reached a hand in, and had no problems since.
Was the same noise as you describe too!

Well car has been in the dealers again this week for two days and they haven't found anything, they say that they have lubricated bushes but the noise was back within 10 miles.
Next thing they are going to try is to change the shock absorber

Car is back at the dealer for the 4th time, have replaced the rear shocker and it's made no difference. Garage are waiting for help from VW as to where the knocking is coming from.

Sorted, noise at the rear has gone, changed the rear shocks and the noise was still there, changed the front drivers side shock and noise has disappeared.

Hi Tony,
Out of interest how long ago did you have the front shock changed? Have you noticed any other changes since you had it done?

Had the front shocker changed 10 days ago, not noticed anything else changing apart from the noise disappearing
