Build Quality

Post by GaretheMoz »

Hi all,

First post although I've been lurking all weekend at the buying guide and various other bits.

I've one question, I'm looking at a 2010 2.0 TSi. The car in question I'm unable to actually get to look at it until next week as it's a 21 hour/1768km drive or 2hr 20min flight as it's up in Northern Norway. How is the Scirocco holding up in terms of build quailty? Are the cabin's still a place free from rattles?

They weren't even free of rattles when new. Others may disagree but personally the build quality of my Scirocco is not as good as my previous MK5 Golf R32.

Yes the Panoramic roof and the trunck has it's rattles. But from that it's relative quit when it comes to insulation and sound from outside.

I managed to drive one today albeit a 2009 1.4TSi. It was surprisingly quite rattly. The 2.0 TSi I was going to look at has now been sold :( and there are no other decent ones about for my budget so just going to have to hold out until ones comes up as I know I'll regret getting the 1.4 when there's a more powerful variant available.

Mines a facelift without the panoramic roof. I've read about all the rattles but never had a single one on mine, it's 7 and 1/2 months old now. Maybe I'm just lucky?

Same here, not a rattle in sight (or should that be in sound :? ), mines a 2010, much more solidly built than my old MK4 Golf, had to pull the whole interior out pretty much and stick fuzzy felt everywhere just to stop the rattling, lol

My 2.0 GTD is a year old now and a couple of months into its life it developed all sorts of strange noises, mainly emanating from the pedal box. It went in and there was a list as long as your arm of stuff that needed addressing....heat shields, cables, pipes....all needed re-securing. The noises haven't returned.

I have an early 2009 Scirocco (so now well over 7 years old), but I have always been impressed with the build quality. The only rattle of note I had was from the headlining. This had to be removed in one corner to replace the GPS 'shark fin' aerial and as ever, it did not go back quite as securely.

I have fixed this with double sided tape though.

The other one are the triangular shaped door pulls. I find if the car has been sitting in strong sunshine, the plastics in the door pull can rattle/buzz.

Must be lucky!
