My roc is giving me a hard time:
- Rattling when starting up cold
- Jerking at any speed in any gear under acceleration
- Check engine light blinks sometimes when accelerating hard.
So naturally Ive had it in for a check up, but the mechanic just says I should live with that slight jerking (I dont think its slight) and that the computer didnt show any faults.
This was before the check engine light sometimes flash.
Im thinking new coils at least. Any one else with similar problems and hopefully a happy ending to it?
Going for a 5000km roadtrip this summer, and want it in ship-shape

It does sound like a coilpack on it's way to failure. I would fit a new set of coilpacks and a new set of plugs.

Rattling when starting up cold:
This will more than likely be the camshaft adjuster sticking - a common problem on pre mid-2010 engines. A revised version came out to prevent this.
It won't cause any harm, but can be reduced by frequent oil changes if you do a lot of short journeys (every 5k miles).
It is possible its the chain tensioner failing, but this is rare on the 1.4 TSI, far more likely to be the camshaft adjuster.
Check my post here on 1.4TSI startup noises: http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... 25&t=20760" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
As above, the jerking will be a misfire - hopefully new coil packs will solve it. Try and get the codes read again, since something should now be logged with a EML coming on.
Until you get that sorted, don't do long journeys - constant misfires can kill a piston (and the cylinder wall with it) requiring an engine rebuild / new engine.

Thank you both for insightful replies!
I will take the car to another shop and present them with your suggestions so they at least have some place to start
Thanks again!
