Does this MPG sound right?

Post by Jester »

Been getting really shoddy MPG, around 22 city driving like a Grandad, never over 32 on short 50+ runs. Lowest was 15MPG in heavy traffic... Something must be up?

I've had my 2.0 TSI 200ps for just over a month, and have been getting on average 30mpg on my 20 mile commute to work (mix of dual carriage ways and then city driving), and i don't stick to the speed limit on the dual carriage ways ;)

And on a recent 400 mile round trip for a long weekend away i managed 40mpg (pretty much half the length of the A1, from Chesterfield to Berwick Upon Tweed) which i was mightily impressed with

Sounds pretty poor... but short runs can give truly dreadful average MPGs...

On my 160PS DSG I have been surprised just how economical it can be. On a mainly motorway run I'd be around 45-50MPG, mainly urban driving (albeit for more than 1 hour each time), 35MPG...

For a blast on twisty roads in Manual holding the gears until around 5-6K a fair bit, 30-35MPG - perhaps I am not caning it enough !!!!!

My best has been a 50 Mile run down the M4 then right into Central London including the Embankment and Vauxhall at a quiet time of day... 54MPG! Coming home in the rush hour... 32MPG!!! Massive difference. I was D the whole time both ways taking it really easy.

Despite these impressive numbers, drive it into town and back (total of 3 miles) on a cold engine and I'll be more like 22MPG... don't do this much - I hate punishing a car like that...

My trip says I'm getting around 36 average seems to think ill do 400 to a tank when I fill but I get 330 before my light comes on topping up about 45 liters which calculates at 33.3mpg average.

I do drive with a bit of spirit and an APR stage 1 though :P

Yeah, if you've had the car mapped then the on board calculation will be out as that doesn't take your Map into account

My old Golf GTTDI thought i was getting 60mpg when in reality i was getting closer to 40, that was mapped, lol

I have also had this concern. I have an 09 plate 2.0l tsi DSG and was getting low 20's on my 8 mile commute to work.

I switched up to using V power and it has boosted it to around 28mpg for my commute.

My best mpg was 42 but that was a 25mile trip, no traffic and taking it as easy as I could.

My worst on a 30 mile blast was 15mpg, that was letting the car rev up to 6.5k/7k before changing up and generally driving aggressively.

I usually get around 280-300 miles from about a £60 fill of V-power. My tank averages have been about 26mpg. Not the best but I didn't buy this car for the mpg so I can live with it haha.

Blimey, i get around 230 miles out of £40 of regular 95 RON (about £1.10 a litre round here)

I have run a couple of tanks of 98 RON through it but made bugger all difference, either performance or mpg

Mine is a manual though, is the DSG supposed to be better or worse on fuel, i know automatic of old were always worse on their fuel than the manual equivalent

I think it makes a difference to my mpg because my car is running cold for over half of my journey to work. I haven't ran it long enough to see if the extra cost of the V power is worth it.

Yeah up in Aberdeen 95 RON is about £1.10 and 98 RON is £1.18 :/

Cheers for the replies! Having a read through makes me wonder if something is going wrong, maybe the inlet manifold?
