DIY EGR valve replacement on 61 plate 170 TDI

Post by Karlos1544 »

Hi All

A recent diagnostics test showed that i have a fault with my EGR valve, though what the fault was, was not specified. The (non dealer) VW specialist wants £700 to replace it. I don't want to pay that.

I have read online that people can remove them and clean them themselves, and i m considering having a go at this and wondered if anyone had any experience with this in terms of difficulty, i m a bit of a novice but used to 'tinker' with old cars.

Also, i cant say i m feeling any ill affects of this fault, she runs beautifully, so part of me is wondering why bother?

Thanks for any help

Just disable the egr with a remap and don't care about it anymore. Just ridiculous to spend this amount of money. Or is this fault not allowed during MOT?

Have a go at cleaning it you also might want to clean out the cooler as well
I do plenty of these on our Toyota fleet at work if you take them off and soak them in a costic soda(oven cleaner will do)solution they come up like new

Hi guys, thank you both for your replies and sorry for the delayed response.

haven't got round to this yet as doesn't appear to be making any difference to my day to day drivings. I think i will try to clean it though.

Thanks again!
