Interlago wheel missing midcap

Post by moose185 »

One of my 18inch interlago alloy wheels is missing a midcap, I've no idea how this happened I've been driving the car normally. Has anyone had this replaced by Volkswagen? Is it possible? My car is still under warranty.

If you're on about the centre cover cap - they just pop in and out and can be bought separately.

VW charge £10.51 per cap, part no: 3B7601171 XRW

You can get clones on ebay for a lot cheaper.

Yeah I mean the centre cap, ok great I'll call them later. I was worried they might not have the part for this.

It's a standard 65mm cap which can be bought off TPS / Dealer or EBay.

just had a look on ebay there £24 for a set of 4. these are genuine ones though.

I take it these centre caps are easy to fit? just a case of putting them in. i'm surprised it came out not very good quality.

They just clip in and are normally held in quite securely, so they don't often fall out.

Someone could have nicked it though.

I usually park my car inside work, but had to park it on the street today and I reckon someone else has stolen it. well that's my theory ah well if they have karma is a bitch.

I actually thought they were metal and couldn't be taken out easily. I was wrong!

I decided to replace mine a few years back as they were looking tired and scratched up. I was surprised at how difficult they were to get out, the clips are surprisingly strong unless they've been damaged during a visit to a garage.

There are a lot of them available on ebay but mostly cheap knock-offs which will corrode and delaminate fast. I replaced all mine with genuine VW ones two years ago and they still look great.

If you can easily get the wheel off, best option is to push them out from the inside. Otherwise you can pry the old ones off but put a bit of cloth or paper tape over a screwdriver or knife blade otherwise you can mark your alloys quite easily.

If the old ones are being thrown away you can drill a hole in the centre and pull them off with a bent paper clip or the tool to remove the nut covers.
