Ordered my Scirocco yesterday and opted, after much deliberation, for the Opal Silver. My thought process in deciding which colour was as follows:

Rising blue - looks great though slightly boy racery if you know what I mean (I'm 40 and wanted something a little more subtle), also fairly common
The other blue one - looks a little dull in the flesh
Reflex silver - every other car on the road is silver
Pewter grey - dull as dishwater
Black - my current car is black and its a bitch to keep clean
Viper green - I'm too boring to drive a bright green car
Red - OK but the shade could have been better
Sumatra - not seen so can't comment
White - I must admit it looks fantastic, though Jeremy Clarkson was right when he said it looks like a stormtroopers helmet

I got overtaken on the M6 last week by a Opal Silver Scirocco and thought it looked great; decision made there and then.

The Scirocco is one of the most colour sensitive cars i've seen, and you can't tell suitability from a picture, you really have to see it in the flesh.

I have a "dull as dishwater" Pewter Grey one to be picked up today, so I am a little biased.

I loved it in white after seeing one at the dealers, and I dislike white cars generally.

I have a Tornado Red Golf GT Sport and I love the colour, but don't like Salsa Red on a Scirocco after seeing one in a car park, it's not a bright enough shade of red - give us Firespark!

Saw demonstrators in Rising Blue (loved it), Reflex Silver (liked it), Sumatra (Brown just does not do it for me on any car), Opal Silver (ok, a bit too champagne-like for me).

Seen a Viper Green one in the flesh and it looked good in a "nice, but I wouldn't have one myself" kind of way - attention grabbing.

Had a test drive in a black one - it hid the identity of the Scirocco too much, you can't see the detail (grilles etc) and shape too well. I'm a big fan of Black - i've had 2 Polos and a Golf in Pearl Black.

In the end it was between the Pewter Grey, Candy White, or the Rising Blue for me. The Pewter Grey does not look dull on a Scirocco if you've seen one in the flesh, it really shows the muscularity of the car.

A Pewter Grey Dealer swap/allocation grab (and a good discount/part ex) that was available in less than 3 weeks swung the Pewter Grey for me, but if i'd had to order from scratch i'd have probably got the White over the Blue or Grey to pocket the £400 difference.
2013 - Tornado Red MK7 Golf GTD on order
2011-2013 - Rising Blue 170GT
2009-2011 - Pewter Roc 140GT
2007-2009 - Tornado Red Golf 170TDI GT
2005-2007 - Black Pearl Golf 140TDI GT
2003-2005 - Black Pearl Polo 1.9TDI

Just waxed the new car today - Pewter grey is a real misnomer - it's more of a silvery-light blue mix, not regretting the colour at all. Shame about the light headliner - I thought all GT's were dark. After reading various posts on here it seems to be a 2.0TSI exclusive - damn!

Clarkson's reference to the Scirocco in white looking like a "Stormtroopers helmet" was made in an article he wrote for the Times Online...

OMG - I hadn't realised that Sumatra is BROWN!!! Holy cow!

Oh well, I've gone for the truffle leather interior so that at least will keep it colour coordinated. Must admit I thought it was more grey than brown, but will be fascinated to see it in the flesh now. Hope I haven't made the wrong choice. I considered the Opal Silver but it looked more champagne than silver and didn't want to take the risk. It's so hard to choose from the colour charts, and the bendy bits of sample plastic they have in the showroom. I knew I didn't want to have white as it's such a popular colour these days, and I have a cross country route to take every day and I'd end up hating it looking filthy. White's OK if you live in a town or city and there's no mud!

Can anyone with a Sumatra reassure me it's not really really brown?!!

I'd say this is Brown. A nice Brown though :)
