Rear wiper on engine start

Post by Timbo69 »

I've noticed my rear wiper does a couple of flicks when the engine is started, something I'm pretty sure it didn't do last summer. Is this a feature or a fault?

Are your front wipers on and have you selected reverse gear?

More than likely the above - personally I would remove the rear wiper, looks a lot fresher and smooth without it

It's in Park and the front wipers are off. I wouldn't mind it but with the frosty starts recently you just get the cringe worthy sound of rubber scraping over ice. It's only happened this winter so I thought it was some sort of feature - wipe of the dew on cold mornings type of thing - but it's getting to be a pain now.

Faulty stalk? Maybe it thinks you've pushed it forward for rear wipe. Or iffy contact on the gearbox telling the car it's in reverse when it's not?

Faulty wiring. Issue with the wiring where it goes into the boot.
Had the same on my Golf Mk5 GTI.

My skoda courtesy car has a feature where the rear wiper activates when reverse is selected.

Scared the hell out of me first time it done it.

On the Scirocco this option is also available. Also continues wiping when the front wiper is on. And teardrop wiping.
