Custom Number plate with pic
Hi All,
I had my lower grill custom painted few weeks ago and added a splitter, BUT i didnt like the way the number plate eclipsed the grill.
On closer inspection i decided that the recess in bumper could house a custom fit plate that wouldnt be far from the actual full size plate but without all the extra crap round edges.
I paid £15 and have to say it transforms front end, you can now see All the grill so looks mean from the front now.
Also everybody i tell say "oh yeah i didnt notice it was smaller untill you pointed it out"
Even went through MOT no probs.
Please if your thinking about commenting about the law etc etc then save it, its a waste of your time!!!

Re: Custom Number plate with pic
For the law, it's the size of the letters and spacing and not the actual size of the plate.
Looks good:-)

Re: Custom Number plate with pic
That does look much better pal. Are the actual letters the same size as a standard plate?

Re: Custom Number plate with pic
Yes your right cuprabob letters and numbers have to be certain size with 11mm around edges etc etc
But tbh theres not much difference, thats why most people dont notice untill i tell them.
Cheap mod that looks good, that huge grill is there to be seen not covered.
Ive lost count how many people think its a Roc 'R'........then im like "nope its a GT TDI 140"

Very very slightly smaller, you can actually fit original on there but the guy who made it said it would look better this way.Andy Rocc wrote:That does look much better pal. Are the actual letters the same size as a standard plate?
Its very subtle, like i say people dont notice untill i tell them.

I like it
A cheap mod and something I would never have thought about doing. Just looks a lot cleaner

Very interested in this, did you modify the plate yourself or can you order this size?

That does look much better with the smaller plate.
Time to order a new plate and have a bash myself.

Re: Custom Number plate with pic
This is really good as I will change my number plate to the 'german style' but now I can make it smaller too! Cheers!

Hi mate,
Love the front end of your car and would love to do something similar..
How much did the work set you back on the custom front bumper? I'm assuming you sprayed it all white and left the slats black?
Also, what splitter is that?
thanks

I know it's a shot in the dark as this thread is so old but where did you get this plate from?scirocco1984 wrote:The guy came out and measured recess then went and made it.
Did he have a website or was it just a man in van type deal?

Re: Custom Number plate with pic
It's a great wee subtle mod. I've had a plate like that since the day I bought my car (about 8 months ago now) and never had an issue with the law.
http://www.fancyplates.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; will do a plate any size you wish. You just need to tell them what size you want on the second page of the order form.

What were the dimensions you used for the plate?

Re: Custom Number plate with pic
Normal width (as it looks silly otherwise) and I went for 2/3rd height but it was too small. I should have measured but it was raining the day I ordered it and I couldn't be bothered going out and measuring in the rain. I believe it was 520mm x 74mm but 520mm x 80mm would have been a better fit size wise.
