Emissions recall

Post by Daddydub140 »

Had my second letter from Mr Alex Smith Director VW UK
Said same thing his first letter said, no real plan of action as yet, why don't they just program all affected engines to be sorted on it's next service ???

That will be an option but not everyone takes their car to a VW franchise for servicing, especially after 3 years old.

Also, for the 1.6 TDI, not used in the Scirocco, there are physical changes as well as a software update. They will have to pit the logistics in place to support demand.

Also, as far as I'm aware, the "the fix" is still under going testing.

It won't be a recall, in the true sense of the word, as it's not safety related.

Had a little inside info....
The vast majority won't be software changes. There will be hardware changes too. In the most extreme it will mean cylinder head replacements on some variants

If they (VW) have to update software, it usually removes remaps. But until we start to see what actions are being taken its all just rumour. I will ask the question though

All include a software change, but the 1.6 has a piece of mesh added in front of the Air flow meter as well as a software 'update'.

Looking at 30 minutes tops for both.

It's not a mandatory recall either.

Are you sure it is not mandatory? It is in every other country, in fact the cars affected won't be road legal unless the recall is performed

It's not mandatory but if it goes to main dealer for a service, it will be done anyway.

Also, if it isn't done in the allocated time frame then you will have to pay if you want it done.

Friggin ell I hope not, a new cylinder head would be tragic. Engines are never the same after that.

Might as well just chuck in a new engine

I'll try and get a little more info over the next few days. And find out which engines have the biggest reworks to do

2.0 is just having a software update and the 1.6 is having a mesh inserted in front the AFM and a software update.

It's as simple as that.

There was talk that it may do a few months back but testing showed it only needed the mesh.

Met with my local dealers manager today, he said that VW haven't started to call owners of affected vehicles in yet,he didn't say if it was his dealership or in general, he did however say no instructions have been given by VW.
Looks like wait and see
AlanH have you got any further ?

Just had first service done at dealers. asked service manager about the recall, he said they weren't doing them yet and in any case didn't need to have it done if I didn't want !!
Friend purchased a new one just over a year ago and VW have offered a new replacement free of charge!

Another letter today from VW basically saying the same as the last letter and we'll be back in touch when you can book the car in for the fix.
