Tech advice needed on new radio and parking sensors

Post by ProfClank »

So firstly, just got my new (used) 60 plate Scirocco on Saturday yay! And this is my first post so hi :).

Now i've gotten the car I feel like the standard RCD 510 seems abit lacking, also I don't have the 30pin adapter for my iphone 6. I don't have the bluetooth module either.

What's important to me is a good looking interior with good functionality, therefore the radio cannot look too out of place. So this is where I've come to ask people's opinions, what would you do?

Change the RCD 510 to a new radio (My pref);

1st choice: Icartech VX8 -- This has been bought now.
http://www.icar-tech.de/shop/index.php? ... uct_id=741" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

2nd Choice: Pioneer SPH-DA120
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

OR upgrade the current unit to the RNS 510 OR install a bluetooth module and make do with the very average looking RCD 510 display?

I've been looking to buy a 30pin MDI adapter for the meantime as my car didnt come with it. I've read I need a specific colour band for a roco and couldn't quite find the colour for it, sorry if I didn't search hard enough.

Lastly the fun topic of parking sensors, now i know this has been covered left right and centre, but again I can't find something as specific to my needs (again apologies if I didn't find the post).

What I would like is a camera and sensor system linked to the VX8 or to the RNS/RCD unit. What exact parking sensors are best rated to give the unit display (I realise this is more of a gimmick and the beeps are more important, but I do like my gadgets). So has anyone got a link to a system that would link to my unit?

Sorry for the long post and waffle, I hope this all makes sense!

Thank you! :)

OEM parking sensors and reversing camera link to the RNS510. Camera just plugs into the back, I know this as I retrofitted one to my 2013 R. Reversing sensors were already installed so not sure how they interface with the RNS510 but they bring up a picture and coloured bands that move as you get closer.

So i've bit the bullet and gone for the VX8, If anyone is interested in some pictures of it and/or a video, let me know. I think its an improvement on the VW system and I look forward to it coming at the end of the week!

If you mean the VX8 then yes, its built for the VW car group (Audi, Skoda etc.) so no additional cables are needed. Although, if you want to use an original VW Camera then you will need an adapter, and it doesn't support the MDI socket in the armrest, therefore you will need to run its USB cable in. I'm going to opt to input a new socket under the climate control in with a USB port. Other than that, no fascias or steering-wheel adapters will be needed.

I've linked their promo video, it looks that it does integrate the features you want, i'll have a better update when I put it in next week.

Just got the VX8 fitted today. It's everything I could have asked for and then some! Looks pretty neat, there are a few gripes, but that can come with firmware updates. Photos to follow soon!

I have the kenwood dnx525dab installed now, really nice unit. It has the climatronic control display and you can even change some settings on the display. It has the steering wheel control buttons functioning. It has a pdc menu and has 2 camera imputs. Garmin navigation. 32gb sd max. Dab+ recreicer etc. Only for the climatecontrol and mfa function you need a cable from kenwood wich is around 180 euro.

Did the gripes ever iron themselves out and do the parking sensors work correctly, also does the unit link up with the MFD and the climate controls? Thanks
