After nearly 2 years ownership I sold my rocco 3 weeks ago.
I needed bigger car with 5 seats as now have 3 children.
I must say i loved the rocco and its the longest ive ever owned a car lol!!! I normally get bored after 3 months and get something else that tickles my fancy.
Anyways I decided to get BMW 5 Series M-Sport F10 new shape.
Shes fully loaded with bigger staggered 19" alloys, full heated black leather with all black headlining, huge 8.8" pro navigation, bluetooth interface phone & music, privacy glass etc etc
Ive had it just over a week and mods ive allready done :
Gloss black alloy refurb with spanking new centre caps
Gloss black kidney grills
Front privacy glass to match rear
Additional M-sport lip spoiler
De-badged
Carbon badges front & rear
I will maybe in future throw a set of 20" staggered alloys on.....

Just one question is front privacy glass not illegal? I was going to tint the front years ago on a Focus ST but was told that even his lightest tint (15% or something silly) would put it over the legal limit as even 'clear' glass actually has a tint of around 15-20% and you wouldn't even notice it.

Technically yes BUT if you get a light shade as i have for over 7 years and never been pulled over.
Just looks better from contrast front & rear and also looking out.

I hope you guys won't mine my sharing a few pics of my new car, a pre-reg, delivery mileage 125i that I picked up at the end of September. It took several weeks to seal the deal since my 160 DSG was stuck at the dealers with extended investigations and repair of a MOT emissions fault.
The story behind the buy is that for the last six months of my 160 ownership I'd become increasingly concerned about the issues surfacing with the engines, and which even appeared to affect MY2012 (mine was an 11 plate). Bear in mind that I'd already gone through the replacement DSG clutch routine and that, in addition, I'd always had some misgivings over the history of the car. So over the period, having weaned myself off the thought of a new Roc R due to cost - and because I fancied a change - I'd been weighing up the usual 'hothatch' options - R/S3, Merc A-Class and Golf.
I know that the Series 1 is a bit of a marmite car, but for me, like the Roc, it stands out from the euro-wedge Audi and Merc options, especially in msport guise. Golf was seriously considered but, even with the updated cabin, seemed more of the same.
As it happened, over the five weeks whilst waiting for the Roc to be repaired, a number of well-spec'd 125is came up on the BMW AUC site, all placed at Lanc dealers. (BMW's compound is in Thorne, Yorkshire). Given the 65 plate and the fact the Series 1 had received a facelift, they were clearing out stock.
Test driving the 125i did it for me. Never driven a RWD before, and I have to say that I love the feeling you get of the car pivoting around you when you corner. Another big plus was that I could never quite achieve a natural driving position in the Roc, whereas the beemer, with its 4-way seat adjustment and long adjustment range for the SW, fitted like a glove.
Other comparisons are probably a bit unfair, since I had only a basic Roc, and which didn't have nav, heated seats, climate control etc. Options include the msport body kit, msport brakes, harman kardon 12 speaker system, privacy glass, greyband tint, 8.8 inch professional nav, full Bluetooth / telephone and full voice control, xenons + heated washers, led drls and rears, extended lighting (puddle lights, door lights etc), for the list price of a Roc 1.4 GT (and with a fair PX for the Roc). Have to say, the cabin is a nice place to be.
There are two things of note regarding differences in transmission and engine. Regards transmission, the Series 1 beemer has a conventional auto. It's doesn't compare the DSG for smoothness but - and this is hard to describe - its feel it gives you back some of the engagement of manual drive, particularly when shifting down the gears, rather than the coasting experience with the DSG. Also, sport mode is actually useable i.e. doesn't simply redline in each gear!
Where the 160 Roc outshines the 125i is the engine. Whilst the latter is of course faster (on par with the Roc 220) it's been perfectly described as a washing machine: it's linear delivery means there's no jolt in the back - it's just dull. And even the 160 made a nice bubbling noise when it took off (as it did, very well), whereas the 125i gives the impression of a sewing machine with 5000v being passed through it. That said, as you'd expect for a 2.0, once you're moving you notice the difference 'left in the tank' in the 125i over the 160; and the beemer is in it's element when on A and B-roads, when it feels a very nice place to be.
The other item of note is that I miss the adaptive suspension that I had on the ROC. The standard set up on the Msports feels spot on for most roads up to around 60mph but becomes scarily skittish at high speeds on bad mways!
In sum, while I'm glad I moved on, and while I'm reasonably happy with what I have I do miss the sense of specialness that I experienced with the Roc. And having the 125i makes me more appreciate what the VW engineers achieved with the 160 - just a shame that reliability wasn't part of that achievement.
Looking forward with interest to what Roc's on offer in 2017/8!
