where did all the decent VWS go?

Post by schesterg »

I'm just posting my frustrations. I have a 63 plate rline 2.0tsi and the other car in my household is a brand new 14.tsi scorocco 15 plate and I have to say they are rubbish! My rline has a stuttering, jerky, lumpy engine and has only covered 27k. Worst at very slow speeds and between 1000 - 2000 rpm, it's been to vw numerous times and because the computer says no they are not interested and say no faults. I have no idea what to do to fix it. The other has peeling trim and carpets that are coming up and a radio that barely works, been to vw 3 times. Both rattle all over unlike any car I have ever owned and this is my 12th! The build quality is shocking and the engine in mine is rubbish. What happened to the vw's people hear about being reliable and dependable vehicles. They have let themselves down! I can't believe haw bad they both are. Becareful before buying!

My Roc is 3 years old now.
Bought brand new.
Never had any problems apart from the odd rattle.

Yes - must be an exception, my car is 6.5 years old and still drives like new, admittedly I have had the odd issue, but it is certainly the best build quality of any car I have owned.

My Roc is 4 years old, came from a BMW 3 series and I can say that the Roc is far superior in terms of build quality, minor rattle every now and again but it's got that solid feel the BMW lacked.

Mine is 5 years old and only had one unexpected issue (drivers seat back not locking in place, fixed under warranty). Anything else has been run of the mill stuff but overall it's been wonderful.

Build quality doesn't necessarily equal to reliability. Having recently moved on from a roc to a series 1, I was somewhat disappointed with aspects of the BMW compared to VW. The VW felt more solidly made, had better materials in a few areas, and better finishing. But for sure, had it not been discontinued, the 1.4 160 wouldn't have been winning any awards for reliability. Generally, there are pluses and minuses for every make and model.

Well I thought vw's were decent cars but I can say they both are honestly the worst cars i/we have had. Build quality does feel sold but it's just not what a vw is supposed to be. My 7 year old ibiza had no rattles at all! These both are like a maraca. I can live with rattles but constant jerking and a noisy lumpy engine that has flat spots, what hope is there if vw are adamant nothing is wrong and can't look at it anymore. The so called mechanics say if the computer doesn't show any faults they can't do anything. What a joke I could plug a comp in to get to that conclusion. Dissapointing as is a perfect car in terms of kit and looks just drives terribly. Certainly not how you would expect to look at it .

Mk5 1.9 TDI - Never broke down over 55k of mapped and abused and big turbo/injector hooning aside from me blowing a gearbox (expected at double stock power).
Mk5 2.0 GTI DSG - Aside from a blocked pickup pump and wishbone bushes which wore out because of the air ride, again never broke down
2.0 TDI Rocco - Never broken down aside from snapping a driveshaft at Santa pod which was replaced there and then.
No issues.

A lot of common issues are simple and if you avoid taking it to main dealers you'll probably find they are sorted out a lot more quickly.
Basic lumpy running can be anything from boost leak to coil packs / plugs to carbon build up to PCV problems. All easily and cheaply rectified
If you think a 7 year Ibiza is nicer than a Mk6 interior then you need your head testing :-)

Why should I pay more money and investigate issues on a 1.5 yr old car that as done very low mileage? It's still under its vw warranty. It's totally unacceptable. No car should do this less so a vw. I don't see why I should pay money to fix a car that should not be broken. I have investigated the carbon buildup issue but as fuel cleaners are ineffective it would need a clean by a specialist company that charge 250 to 300 as the have to take off the inlet manifold and manually clean the valves. Vw said it's not carbon build up. It's nothing according to them. This is a 2.0 tsi BTW. It's a joke and tge other one is brand new!

Either you want it fixed or you sell it.
Youre complaining and not doing anything to fix it.
Coilpacks and plugs are like 120. Change yourself.
It could be carbon build up. Get a mechanically minded mate to help you.

Or find another dealer that will help you

Otherwise sell the car.
Cars are very complicated and sometimes somethings break. This can be from within a few weeks to a few years later. It happens.

Mate at work Golf R mk7 blew engine at 300 miles.
Whole new car and its fine.

It its under warranty then be more firm with your existing dealer or try elsewhere

I do want it fixed and I'm not prepared to pay a penny for plugs, cleaning carbon out, coil packs or having somone fault find ad its not 2 years old and is under warranty. I have attempted to do something by sending it in to vw 3 times. Clearly they are as competent as thier cars, i.e not very. When ypu spend over 45000 on two cars it's not acceptable, Iv noticed a pattern, everyone on this forum says it's been a great car 'apart from'. There are broken drive shafts, blown turbos engines and gearboxes. Perhaps vw are not as good as people are led to believe. I certainly have the experience of 2 to back that up. It's going to vw for the last time and if it's not fixed they are both going and it's good bye vw and buy something decent that works for a little longer than 6 months without falling apart and two years before it stops running correctly.

Like Jay said.
Try another dealer. And if they don't help contact vw head office . A nice email to them might help your situation...
