Mk 4 Scirocco?

Post by Tallguy »

It seems that sorting out the diesel mess is going to cost VW a packet to say the least. I wonder if they will now be able to invest in developing a new version of a relatively low volume car such as the Scirocco? They may need to
spend all the money they have on developing 'bread and butter' cars such as the Golf 8?

Hi,

I was at my local dealer today and just talked some bullshit.
Wondering when i could order my Golf R400 haha. To bad there was no new info on that front!

But then i asked, the same as your's and he told me that the production and developing of new cars would still be the same.
They were two different budgets. So Volkswagen will still be as "normal".

Yes - I would not expect normal R&D activity to be adversely affected within the group. I did wonder whether this whole issue will eventually benefit the customer in terms of better built cars? Churning out all of these vehicles inevitably you can get quality issues which have been mentioned on this forum and others. VW - surely will be wanting to 'win over' customers again and restore reputation, so I would hope that we will see even better cars in the future.

For sure though, things are not good at the moment, and it could potentially affect certain projects in terms of delays. We may be kept waiting for the MK4 even longer!

My concern over all this is that the VW Group (through Audi and Porsche) are a mainstay of my favourite motorsport, the World Endurance Championship, and it wouldn't surprise me if they have to scale back their massive motorsport budget. Such things are hugely expensive luxuries for manufacturers and an obvious target if costs have to be cut.

Don't forget the talk on vw joining F1. Be surprised if that happens

The new chairman of VW is talking about 'massive cutbacks' so I think it has to be far from certain that development funds for a Mk4 Scirocco are safe.

Suits me if they delay the next Scirocco for a few years. I'm just about to get my new (and first) one and I don't really like the idea that a new version will be on the road any time soon making mine look dated and old hat

I'm hoping to get my roc next week - I have similar thoughts to you. I'm also thinking that there is a good chance that the MK4 will be very different... so different that I won't actually like it! I read rumours about the next gen roc losing the shooting brake design... hrm, I'm not sure I would like that!
