Body extras and 180ps petrol

Post by CleanDiesel »

Hello everyone, new ere.

I ordered an R-Line Scirocco two weeks ago, being and environmentalist I've gone for the Eco friendly 184ps TDI.

I had a look on the configurator for the first time today, and noticed in the extras there's a front splitter, rear spoiler and side skirts you can stick on. In the thumbnails they look alright but when you select them they make absolutely no difference to the car in the image. A bit of Google doesn't reveal much but I see the same options on an add for the old shape roc. Is this just lazy from VW's web developer or do they actually exist as extras on the facelift version?

Also, the 180ps petrol, does anyone know what the difference is to the 220? Past lines would tell me injectors, brakes, engine map and possibly smaller turbo but there's nothing clear that I can find using Google.

I prefer petrol cars but the almost identical performance figures of the 180ps petrol engine to the 184ps diesel just aren't worth the far worse fuel economy and much higher CO2 output. If the differences are negligible I'm tempted to swap the engine for a petrol and a sunroof, specially due to the late January/early feb estimated build date apparently purely due to the massive demand in the Diesel engine. God knows why they dropped the 220 engine from one of their sporty models. The 1.8 out the Polo GTI would also be a nice option I reckon.

Thanks in advance.

I genuinely admire you being an environmentalist but buying a brand new car is a shockingly bad thing to do for the environment (not that I'm criticising as I've just done the same thing) so why didn't you go for a used one?

I ordered the 180 PS Petrol but I really wanted the 220 which they've just stopped making! I too checked the diesel out but it is almost 2 grand more money! I couldn't justify that and really a sporty drive really needs a petrol manual IMHO

What colour have you ordered?

I may have been a bit tongue in cheek about being an environmentalist considering what's gone on recently...

I also wanted the 220 petrol, in fact I was very close to doing a deal on a new octavia vrs 230 but vw were offering a far better price on two cars (they were still slightly more expensive than the skodas specced how we wanted them but the second hand value of the VW's is far higher) than skoda were so it was scirocco for me. Couldn't justify the 180 petrol as performance is pretty much identical but the petrol is worse on fuel and higher on tax. Its being put through the business so the extra 2k isn't coming out of my pocket and the diesel being lower on tax is costing me less personally so it was a no brainer. Also gains from remapping are pretty much bang on identical from what my car tuning addict mate told me, 180 petrol goes to 223 brake the 184 diesel goes to 222 with a stage one so I'm told.

I ordered white, I was 50/50 between gray and White at the point of ordering but after keeping my eyes open since I've noticed just about every scirocco on the road is white, I think it's clinched it for me and I'll probably be ringing up this week to ask for gray instead.
