EPC light on/off
As the title says, the EPC light has started coming on and off the last 2 days.
Driving from work bout 45 mins drive came on first time. So stopped the car switched off and panicked. Restarted it and the light stayed off. Made it home about another 45 mins and it stayed off.
Then today out for a 20 min drive, all pretty normal driving and it came on again. Then on the way back after the car had sat for a few hours no light.
Had a quick search and it looked like there were a few possible causes:
1. Coilpacks
2. Sparkplugs
3. Throttle body
4. Something to do with Pistons that means my engine is broken.
Was gonna change spark plugs and coilpacks this week to try and solve it, but any advice/ help would be very welcome!!
Thanks

Re: EPC light on/off
Hey mate
Have you changed your pedals or adjusted them or anything lately, a few other reasons this could be are in the link below.
EPC I believe is electronic pedal control. You could try doing a throttle body alignment first to see if that solves it.
Info here : http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.ph ... Alignment_(TBA" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
You only had your remap a few months ago, did you change your plugs and coil packs at the same time??

Re: EPC light on/off
Evening,
Haven't changed anything to the pedals recently sadly. One time when the light came on the engine sounded pretty lumpy, not a steady idle.
Does the throttle body alignment require VCDS?

Re: EPC light on/off
Yes it does, the throttle body could just be doing with a clean too which is why it could be running lumpy. Have a read at the info on my last post.
Cheers

Re: EPC light on/off
Cheers. I'll have a read through and try and find some VCDS. Just noticed the end of your first post. I changed spark plugs but not coil packs at the remap.

Re: EPC light on/off
Cheers for the advice mate. I've got pretty limited time with the car until I go on holiday. Will try some WD40 today and keep my fingers crossed.

Re: EPC light on/off
The light has came on twice this week when I've been driving about the islands. Had a look at the accelerator pedal and the connector and wires look pretty exposed at the back of the pedal. Is it supposed to look like this?

Haha! I know it's dirty, been living in it all week it seems like! Might have to take your offer up of a TBA with VCDS.

Re: EPC light on/off
Update time: (apologies, its a long post!)
I sprayed the connections on the throttle body with WD40 and the light stayed off for a week or so and then reappeared.
Then dropped in by Irvysan who was very helpful and ran a vcds scan and throttle body adjustment. The VCDS scan revealed the following error codes:
2 Faults Found:
000545 - Angle Sensor 2 for Throttle (G188)
P0221 - 000 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00100000
Fault Priority: 0
Fault Frequency: 4
Reset counter: 255
Mileage: 86633 km
Time Indication: 0
Date: 2000.00.00
Time: 13:19:38
Freeze Frame:
RPM: 2280 /min
Load: 43.9 %
Speed: 61.0 km/h
Temperature: 96.0°C
Temperature: 21.0°C
Absolute Pres.: 990.0 mbar
Voltage: 13.970 V
000289 - Throttle Position Sensor (G69)
P0121 - 000 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00100000
Fault Priority: 0
Fault Frequency: 3
Reset counter: 255
Mileage: 86754 km
Time Indication: 0
Date: 2000.00.00
Time: 12:52:53
Freeze Frame:
RPM: 2198 /min
Load: 56.4 %
Speed: 58.0 km/h
Temperature: 96.0°C
Temperature: 27.0°C
Absolute Pres.: 980.0 mbar
Voltage: 13.716 V
So after googling these it looks like it may be the wiring to/from the throttle body or a dirty throttle body, but as the light was off and a TBA had been carried out I thought i would leave it for now.
A week and 250 miles or so passed and today it reappeared in style. Driving home and the EPC light and the exhaust system fault light came on. Along with this there was some weird rev stuff happening. At idle it would drop to about 500rpm and then fluctuate between that and 750, like it was thinking about cutting out and then catching. Also it decided to increase the revs to a max of about 2500rpm without any throttle input before dropping down after a second or so.
Switched it off and on and the EPC light went off and the revs settled down to normal but the other light remained on all the way home, about 15 mins. Tried switching it off and on a few times but the light remained. Then with it switched off I played with the wires in my previous pic at the throttle pedal and when started up again, no lights were on.
Not driven it since, but this would make me think that there is a problem with the connector at the throttle pedal? Either that or it was a coincidence that the light went off.
Anyone with any experience/ideas?
Thanks

Re: EPC light on/off
A dodgy MAF would give those symptoms. Disconnect the MAF and see if it runs better, altlihough the lights will stay on. With the MAF disconnected it defers to a default setting.

Re: EPC light on/off
Cheers bob! Should I wait for the lights and rough idle to happen again before disconnecting the MAF?

Yes, wait until you get the rough idle.Parsx wrote:Cheers bob! Should I wait for the lights and rough idle to happen again before disconnecting the MAF?
