Rocco R, 20 years old. Manual, mistake?

Post by Paramk »

So I have placed an order for a Scirocco R in deep pearl black, got the tints done as an optional extra along with black wing mirror covers.

I have opted for the manual gearbox although. I never test drove the DSG, but thinking and reading about it now i feel i may have made a mistake getting manual over DSG as the DSG offers better performance and i do a lot of city driving also (Birmingham), can anyone offer any words of comfort to why my decision on getting a manual over a DSG was correct.

I currently have a Leon 1.4tsi 125 Bhp remapped to 152Bhp. So going to 280Bhp will have a big bump.

Scirocco is due to land at my dealership in November, Build week 41 I think... It was too late to change the order once i placed it apparently

Congrats on getting the R :)

DSG, you really need to test drive it to really know if you like it or not, it's down to personal taste.

Can't see how you have made a bad decision without doing this first.

Well its too late so kind of irrelevant you can only move on.

Don't sweat it driving the R through nice roads in manual is ace and will put a lunatic grin on your face:D

Go ask to drive a DSG then. You'd need at least half an hour in my experience.
Tuning a DSG car is easier too if that is a consideration for you.

I came from a mk5 GTI with a DSG box to a manual scirocco R and I didn't regret it. Sure, DSG is great fun at first but I started to miss the control of a manual. The only thing you might miss is the pop on the upshift, and slightly faster gear changes :)

Most of the time in the UK you are driving in stop start or slow traffic anyway, and the car then becomes another dreary automatic..

I wouldn't worry about it. But do take one for a spin if you can, if not so you can at least say you've driven a DSG..

Oh.. my next car is also going to be manual :)
