Idle revs?whats yours?

Post by Guest2 »

Hey guys,

My Scirocco idles at 4k revs all the time and it just seems too low. It judders and feels like its struggling sometimes. if i feather it to 6k revs then its fine. Also,if i turn on the air-con it goes up to 5k revs which makes it idle perfectly.

No performance issues and the mpg is fine so i hope it isn't the intake manifold problems that these cars suffer from.

What do your Scirocco's idle at and is this normal? it feels like it needs to be tuned to idle a tad bit more than 4k revs.

Thanks

J

I assume you mean 400rpm and not 4,000rpm (4k)?

400rpm is way too low, in fact are you sure you're reading it right as I would have expected it to stall.

Idle should be around 750 - 800rpm

Yes, each one is 200rpm. My car idles just below the 4th one, so just under 800rpm.

Even my R32 with a V6 idled at 600rpm.

I would certainly have it looked at as the ECU controls the idle based on various parameters. It's not like the "old days" when you just turned a screw on the cards:-)

you beat me to it! was going to ask about how to do it as didn't think it would be just a screw to increase or decrease! ill get it looked at. Any reason why it would idle so low? would it have been set at that point for some reason?

No idea at all why it would be so low. If there was an air leak it would normally increase and fluctuate quite a bit.

I would expect there will be an adjustment available with VCDS.

Good luck and come back and tell us the outcome as I'm intrigued

I miss the days you turned a screw or something similar to change the idle position (haha).

Mine idles just over 1k at start up and drops down to about 600rpm after roughly a minute - I usually wait till it drops before I drive off (even if I'm late)...

I can't find anything about changing the idle rpm for the CR and Tsi engines.
For the pd engines its changeable under Engine Adaptation channel 2 (tdi).
A tuner sure can change it directly in the ecu.

I have found it.

With your engine turned off go to:

01- Engine
Security login ( a popup apears mine said logincode 12233)
Adaptation
Channel 06: Idle speed adjustment
New value: Here its possible to change it i guess. Mine is set on 780. I didn't test it because my engine is running fine so im not going to adjust it. So its on your own risk.

Thanks, i hope i can help some people with it. I don't know if its the same channel as petrol cars, someone has to take a look if it is.
Now im gonna let it stay for a while on 830 rpm and just see if it makes any difference for me, i dont think it will. Car was idleing fine all the time.

Thanks so much for this. Im not back with the car for a few weeks as i am away but when im back ill call someone to try and change it. so normal idle is set at 830rpm? chaining this won't change the revs when its cold will it?ie rev higher whilst choke is out?

Hi you're welcome. Yes give it a try i hope it helps.
The stock idle rpm for my car (tdi) is 780 but for a tsi i don't know it.
But a lot higher then 400 rpm. 750-800 rpm?
I don't know how much it will raise during cold start thats something to figure out this winter.
