Hi guys,
I've got a 64 plate Scirocco 1.4 TSI which I've had from new since Decenber. On Saturday I noticed a smell of burning oil coming through the vents, I hadn't been on a long journey or driven it hard, I assumed it was another car and thought nothing of it.
The same thing happened this morning, just done my 15 mile commute on the motorway at about 50 (damn variable speed limits) and as I came off I noticed the same thing. I had this problem on my Mini Cooper before I p/x it in against the Rocco so never found out what it was but smells pretty similar although not as strong. It was happening in the Mini more when the heat was up but with the recent weather it hasn't gone over half way, it may not be the same thing though! I've also noticed the fuel consumption has been pretty poor recently, I usually get about 50mpg on the morning commute but today it was about 42, nothing significant so again might not be linked.
I can take it back to the dealer but I know they'll say there's nothing wrong and fob me off, given I have no idea what it could be I can't exactly go in and suggest anything to them.
Any ideas or suggestions greatly appreciated!

Re: Burning oil smell
i get a similar thing mate, though ive never had problems with the engine burning oil like the early 1.4 engines did. (oil gets changed every 12 months rather than 6)
My conclusion of it is that these little 1.4's run pretty hot. So i think its more of a 'Hot' Smell, if you get my meaning. ive noticed it more when ive just given it a good hard drive.

Thanks for the reply, I do know what you mean about the hot smell as I've smelt that before but this seems different.therealtimmsy wrote:i get a similar thing mate, though ive never had problems with the engine burning oil like the early 1.4 engines did. On Saturday I was driving through town at mostly 30/40 but noticed it when sat in traffic, only a few minutes after it had been parked up for about an hour.
I'm gonna take it in anyway because I'm having trouble getting it into reverse sometimes, I'm wondering if it's a clutch issue.
