Manual or DSG?

Post by mholmes »

I am sure this has probably been discussed before. sorry.

I am looking to buy a 2.0 tsi and all the cars for sale that are close to the spec i am after have DSG. Initially i was adamant i wanted a manual as i like having full control of gears whilst dirving etc.

But now seeing soo many having DSG i am in two minds.

Has anyone else ended up with a DSG after wanting a manual and been surprised and glad they went the DSG route? or visa versa?

cheers guys your opinions will help me make up my mind

Yep I was set on a manual but tested a 2.0tsi DSG and ended up buying it, and I dont want to go back! Just go and test one!
You still have full control with the paddles if you want to, but i never use them.

Ok thanks guys. No one regretted getting DSG then

If looking at a car with around 30k-35k would you recomed getting the dealer to do a DSG service on it before buying.

I've got DSG and have no intention of going back to manual. I love it.
If you do a rush hour commutes it'll dawdle along doing everything for you but when you want some fun you just switch to the paddles and away you go. It's brilliant.

Dsg service is meant to be at 40k so I'd ask them to do it to secure sale - haggle!

I've changed to a DSG and I'd never go back! Paddles are way to much fun when you want some!

Modern autos as so much fun these days...gone are the times of slow changes and questionable downshifts.

Depends on the type of driving you do tbh.. I've got a dsg R32 and I would chose manual if i was buying again. I also had a dsg 177 Rocco RLine.. terrible (imo) when paired with a diesel.. I have test driven both manual and DSG Rocco R's and Golf 6 and 7Rs.. and a DSG 2.0 Tsi.. I would pick a manual.

I was very sceptical about DSG because I detest slush-box autos and always bought manual. A mate persuaded me to test drive a DSG and I never looked back. I am hooked :)

Both are fun but in the end DSG will be the winner (i drive a manual right now) and i think DSG will hold its value better

Back from the test drive. Loved the DSG. Deposit paid and should be picking it up next Friday.

Manual, my driving style would not suit a DSG

Had the car (DSG) a week now and loving it. Use manual mode pretty much all the time unless in traffic.

Only small annoyances with it changing down gears sometimes before I expect it to or milliseconds before I hit down myself.
