High revs, Engine Shaking Car

Post by matty91 »

Hi Everyone, I have a problem with my car which I hope someone on here might of either had happen to themselves or have a bit advice for me

I brought my VW 2011 Scirocco 1.4 122ps Manual on the 1/4/15 from VW. After a few weeks of owning the car the fuel cap got jammed shut, they replaced a pin under warranty and it now works fine, then a day or two after I was driving home and the EPC light and engine/cat light came on, I pulled over straight away and checked the manual and it said not to drive the car any more, I turned the engine off and back on again and the lights was not on, I phoned the local VW branch and they said if lights on do not drive but if they are not on then it's fine to carry on driving it.

Since then I have noticed that when starting it from cold it revs to 1500rpm and takes up to a minute for it to sort it self out to normal idle, but recently on three occasions the engine has been shaking that much that the front of the car shakes! When the engine is revving higher and when it shakes the car sounds rough and not smooth (nothing to do with the sound of Timing chain). I have waited for the car to calm down and then I drive it, but it's got to a point where I am not comfortable driving it anymore I case it is causing more damage.

Cut a long story short ... Even though I have a one year warranty I have been charged £96 diagnostic charge for them to look into it, they couldn't find a fault at first, but then said they had and wanted more money to investigate (approx £220). I said no as I have only recently brought the car I shouldn't have to pay. So the VW garage I brought it off said they would pay my local branch. My local branch has now said that they are not going to strip the engine down as they see it as a 'waste of money' even though they are the ones who suggested this extra charge! Anyway they keep trying to give the car back even though they haven't found the fault!

I see this engine has problems with coil packs could this be linked to my problem?

Any advice would be great!

I had something similar with 1.4 160.
I did the diagnostics thing which came up as a misfire on cylinder 1. After some swapping around of spark plugs and coil packs which made no difference, a new injector was fitted and all was fine again. Unfortunately mine was out of warranty so my pocket was hit quite hard, but all was resolved thankfully.
I made sure I saw the diagnostics report before letting the garage do any work. And it wasn't VW I took it to, it was a company called iAuto. They were very good.
Hope you get sorted quickly.

If u buy from a dealership / garage you are covered for 6 months under sale is goods act (1979?) trading standards will verify this, threaten to return the vehicle unless it is fixed as it is not fit for purpose - they will yield as it's the law.
