Steering wheel not perfectly straight...?
Hi all,
I just noticed while I was driving on the highway (and suspected this the last few days as well)... my steeringwheel is not aligned right. When it's centered, my car steers a bit towards the right. I have to keep it angled at about 4degrees counterclockwise to have it steering straight out...
Anyone else also has this problem, and any ideas how this can be solved?

Re: Steering wheel not perfectly straight...?
could be the steering wheel was fitted one or two splines out. just take it back to the dealer and they can check it and put it right.

Re: Steering wheel not perfectly straight...?
Sounds more like there is not enough pressure in your front right tyre.
This would cause the car to drift slowely to the right.
Go to your local petrol garage and see if they're pumped up correctly!

Re: Steering wheel not perfectly straight...?
hmm, I kinda like it this way... I think I'm getting used to it.
Might keep it like this, it's kind of the spirit of the car and the manufacturers...

Hi,
Mine is the same, it pulls slightly to the right on the highway, i checked the tyre pressure and they seem fine.
Any suggestions what you guys did to solve this issue....
Cheers....

Re: Steering wheel not perfectly straight...?
mine is the same.
vw service dept person was trying to tell me the geometry isn't correct as i have had it lowered...
conversation went something like this...
the company that lowered the car reset the camber to accomodate and also did a 4 wheel alignment but the car is still pulling to one side.
"well they must have not done something wrong. i would first try to get them to sort it out"
yeh but i told you about this problem when the car came in the other week (for some warranty work, fauly coilpack)
"thats right. we still wouldn't be willing to do anything until after 5500 miles to allow the suspension time to bed in"
but surely if it was pulling before and has now been aligned and the geometry correctly set, basically what you would have done, and its still pulling exactly the same as before, the problem must be with something else right?
i am certain its the steering wheel not being aligned corretly. apparently it's quite a common problem...
"no actually its highly unlikely to be the steering wheel. the steering wheel position is completely dependant on the suspension setup."
errr no its not... there is a guy at the factory who puts the steering wheel onto the column right? so what if he doesn't put it on straight?
"it is impossible not to put it on straight..."
right... i think i'm going to put the phone down now before i fall off my chair...

I had the exact same issue and it was a problem of the wheel alignment... They made me pay though, dealer told me it wasn't covered by the warranty...

Re: Steering wheel not perfectly straight...?
The steering wheel can be out by a few spline teeth but the Scirocco has a mark on the steering wheel and on the steering column to line up on.
http://www.sciroccocentral.co.uk/forum/ ... =25&t=2228 has some pics of it.
It's more likely to be the toe not set correctly.

Re: Steering wheel not perfectly straight...?
rhcp: The dealer ripped you off.
If it's not right from build then warranty should cover it. It may not stop you from driving the car, but it is a build fault.
Unless it's one of those things that the dealer should have picked up on when they did the PDI, and now the onus is on them to sort it, i'd get on to VW UK and get an explanation which should result in a refund of your charge.
It is madness to get a new car and be expected to pay to rectify a build fault.

Re: Steering wheel not perfectly straight...?
You should not have to pay to rectify a minor fault caused by the person who fitted the steering wheel suffering from "pontoon eyes" (one eye is sticking, one is twisting, but they're both bust)
