Current Lead Times

Post by adenorris »

Has anyone contacted a dealer recently about current lead times? My local dealer is suggesting that if I ordered now I'd be looking at an October delivery date...I'm not sure if he's just trying to get me to buy the demonstrator he's got on the forecourt...

Thanks

So 12 weeks looks the minimum if I'm lucky then, but more likely towards 16. Looks like August maybe September then. Thanks everyone.

It really does depend on your spec. OEM's build lots of cars without actual customer orders, if you place an order which matches the spec of one of these cars either built or in the pipeline you may get it sooner than the standard build time which at launch was 16 weeks from point of order. Hence is you are willing to compromise on spec and talk to your dealer you might be able jump onto a car already in the system and slash your delivery time.

I believe at the moment VW have extended the standard build time from 16 to 18 weeks as production has been reduced to cope with the economic downturn. So depending upon your spec you may get lucky, but i would bank on 16 weeks as a minimum and a couple of weeks on top for delivery to the UK / PDI checks and collection.

Best of luck, now the Xenon and panoramic roof supply issues seem to be resolved you should be ok. Spare a thought for some of us who had to wait 24 weeks or more for the spec they wanted! :fall:
08/11 - 12/13 2.0 TSI R DSG, Black / Black Vienna
01/09 - 08/11 2.0 TSI GT DSG, Black / Truffle Vienna

Black is the new Black....

Thanks everyone. I emailed VW directly and this was the response I got:

"The estimated lead time for delivery of a new Scirocco is between 16-20
weeks. There may be a Scirocco available from UK stock that meets your
requirements which could be with you much quicker."

When I placed the order for my roc at April 1st, I was told it would go in production in week 39. When I told the dealer, this was unacceptable to me and that I would then buy another car, he asked me to give him 2 minutes and he then left. After 20 minutes he came back and told me, that he could offer me production in week 19, though I would then get a 2009 model. When I asked him how he cut 20 weeks off, he told me, that dealers get a certain number of slots at the production line, and if he sells more cars than he has slots, then he can only hope for spare slots from other dealers (or delay delivery). I guess this means that a dealer who sells a lot of rocs, will get longer lead times, so perhaps you want to go to another dealer and ask.

Just a thought.....I have no (additional) inside VW knowledge :) ....and perhaps there is a difference between how this is handled by VW in the UK and VW in Denmark.

So when my dealer rang me up last week and told me that my 12 week lead in was now going to be 16 weeks - has he slotted in some pushy punter in front of me ? :grumpy: Or is it really a VW issue.
How do I stand with my order and deposit if my delivery date keeps getting put back. Can I cancel my order and recover my deposit ?

In week 21 or 22 they change the production line to facilitate the 2010 model. Perhaps they are having troubles with that and need to shut down production longer than expected, in which case all slots are pushed. I don't know.....but at least a couple of weeks after you place your order for a VW, VW puts the car in their production system, and when that happens the dealer cannot cancel or make changes to the order. You can always ask the dealer if your order has got its final slot in production, because if it hasn't, he can cancel the order.

If you can cancel the order and recover your deposit, mainly depends on UK laws, which I'm not familiar with. Perhaps someone else can be of more help regarding that.
