Scirocco 2.0 TDI help

Post by ratm500 »

Alright guys,

I've been having this problem with my scirocco when driving in 3rd gear, for example, I can only take it to about 4000revs before I get a power loss. The car doesn't cut out, it just stops accelerating even tho I have my foot down. It happends in all gears except the first. 4th I can only take to about 3500 revs before it happeneds.

When it happeneds I put it in neutral for a second them into a higher gear and then it goes...as you can imagine this is not very fun when you're trying to overtake. Has anyone else experienced this. It's and 09 plate. It's got a fully service history and has about 53000 miles on it.

Cheers guys,

Tom

Pretty sure this is how diesels are? The torque runs out at around 3500/4000 rpm hence the need to change up a gear to bring the revs back down. I guess if its a dramatic power loss there could be a problem but I just think thats the way diesels work.

As said above, that tends to be the characteristics of a diesel engine. Totally different to a petrol engine where power continues further up the rev range.

How long have you had the car? Has this just started happening or has been like this since you bought it.

If you suspect a fault then a scan with VCDS for fault codes is the first thing to do.

Yeh been like that since I bought it. That's what I thought but then a friend, who's very much into his cars, drove and found it really strange. The power loss happeneds at different revs in different gears. I would presume if it was normal then they would all be around the same...

I'm going down to another friends tonight and he is going to but the diagostics kit into. Hopefully something will flag up and it will be solved.

Thanks for the replies anyway guys

I have a 2.0 TDI 140. Well, that's not normal. Mine has DSG.
But, it's all the same. Using kickdown button, if it's in 6th, depress gas throttle all the way and sometimes it puts 2nd gear and TC kicks in at 4000 RPM.
Sometimes it even reaches almost 5K RPM. The power is constant!

Connect it to VCDS and see errors.

I have a 177 tdi and can say I have never experienced that issue. Mine was pulling right up to 5k without an issue. I since had a Revo stage 1 map and it is even better. Honestly there must be plenty of 177 owners who don't run out of steam at 4k.

I wouldn't say I get a significant power loss around 4k, but in a diesel, torque is your friend rather than peak power at 4200rpm as proved on Dyno when having Revo map, power and torque do start to drop off, the torque from the vw cr engines really doesn't need to be pushed to the redline. However, what your experiencing does sound a little strange.

Thanks for the replies guys. A friend who's really great with cars believes one of the boost pipes is damaged. Possibly cracked, nothing major thankfully! Getting it on a ramp this week to get it fixed. Will update with good news later this week...I hope!

A bit of an update..

I got the pipe replaced, and although it make a slight difference, it's not fixed the problem. Again, just before 4k, it's is as though uve hit the red line. Now however, I can lay off the accelerator and still keep it in the same gear, as opposed to it going complete flat previously.

When on the diagnostics kit, it was coming up with the error:

- turbo/supercharger underbooost
- permament

Anyone have any ideas?

Another update,

Took it too revo. Really helpful guys in there. They out it on their diagnostic kit and no errors were coming up. No readings for the dfc either! Thought it was removed and maybe the software wasn't. They need to take it in for a day to have a proper look tho. Think it might be the acuator...

So will stick it in over Easter and hope they can fix it an the. Remap it.

Getting the turbo acuator fixed today. A friend looked at it and believes that's the problem. Fingers crossed for today!

Next plan is a remap. Anyone in Scotland, Glasgow area have any recommendations? I've been looking at Celtic Tuning.

Hey guys, another update.

Not a good one unfortunately. Got the acuator fixed, which was pretty knackered anyway, but still have this issue. I've now relised that the car works fine and boosts properly (full Rev range in all gear) until the car gets up to temperate. Then it starts going flat in high revs.

My mechanic had had it all week, and had changed pretty much every sensor on it. He believes it's a problem with the turbo veins. He is going to put through a turbo cleaner and hope that might help, but it's a last resort. Otherwise I will have to get it sent away.

Pretty gutted to be honest, and not really sure what I am going to do.

I stay in glasgow n there is a garage in clydebank that did mine in January. Done a few thousand miles since then and I can strongly recommend them! Can't remember the name of the garage but can give you the number if interested.

Cheers mate. Yeh definitely.

Does anyone know where the two temperature sensors on the engine are? My mechanic compared data he took from a golf Tdi and noticed a temperate never matched. He knows there's two temp sensors on the engine but is having difficulty finding it. Anyone have a clue?
