Real World MPGs - 2.0tsi and 2.0 tdi

Post by md_halifax »

Hello all,

I know MPGs are all dependent on driving style etc but does anyone get anyone anywhere near the quoted MPGs for their cars. I can't imagine anyone getting over 600 per tank in the tdi or 400+ in the 2.0tsi?!! I've had my calculator out :geek: , and based on the official stats it'll only cost me about a tenner a week extra for the big smile a diesel doesn't give you *(I have nothing against diesel BTW, my last two cars have been diesel) .....

I do a mixture of driving, some motorway each day and some around town. I am 32 and my right foot isn't too heavy (ahem).

So, what do you reckon guys and girls, what sort of economy do you get from your cars?

As many replies as poss, if I'm to change the engine on my order I need to move fast. Cheers one and all......

md - It really does depend on your driving style mate, I can get 37mpg over a 200 mile run no problems (and no i dont drive like Miss Daisy!) I know that several of the guys on here have got the 2.0Tsi's over 40mpg driving like nuns ha ha! However, give it the beans everywhere and you can look at mid to late 20's. The 2.0Tsi's are superb cruisers just as much as the diesel versions (Ive come from a Mk5 Golf 2.0Tdgti anyway) and I think that is why so many of us really are so happy with the choices we made. Unless you really are interested in letting the moths sit in your wallet - go for the petrol, you know its the one you want.. :headbang:

Getting around 40mpg around town and 50mpg on a motorway trip (Steady 80 - 90mph). Thats for the TDi.

I had an S3 with the TSi engine admittedly in a more tuned state and even on a run I was very lucky to get 38mpg.

Very happy with the car.

mines only a week old with 300 miles and its averaged 37mpg with a mixture of all types of driving. I was getting 45mpg on the motorway around 65mph. I'd imagine as it loosens up that figure will go higher

Im getting about 44 to 48mpg combined in the TDI - My last fill was after 460 miles and it took 48 litres to brim the tank. I'm currently reading 360 miles since last fill up and I reckon I have a third of a tank left. I'm really happy with the car and the economy is a revelation after 3 years of RX-8 Wankel thirst (220 miles on a tank if I was very lucky)

I'm showing 48mpg on "Trip 2", for my fairly quiet (fairly quick) A and B road journey to work, between 500 and 550 miles to a tank. I don't consider filling up until the warning light comes on becasue I know that when it does I've got another 50 or 60 miles before it runs out.

Over 2500 miles I've averaged 29.1mpg. A lot of my driving is zipping around town, and I usually get around 25mpg on my way to work and back. On a 270 mile round trip to Chesterfield and back I get about 37mpg, and that's coasting at around 80-90 where possible.

Averaged 33.2mpg over the first 1200 miles with pretty gentle driving. That'll probably drop though once the engine loosens up and my foot gets heavier ;)

Over the 1900 miles I have done the trip is showing 32.7mpg.

I have managed 330 miles with 55 left on the trip. After filling up the trip normaly estimates around 360 - 380 miles before empty.

Considering I had a Focus ST3 before that got around 24mpg average (only ever managed 30mpg on motorway journeys) I am pretty pleased :D

I appreciate all your posts, cheers guys. Your experiences are a useful tool in making my decision (a bit easier)

And I didn't think it was too politically charged considering some of the diesel v petrol debates I've seen, LOL. It looks like if I'm sensible (!) I can get a really good mpg from the petrol on my commute.

So I have contacted the vehicle management company and asked for updated quotes. This is despite ordering the diesel a week ago. I trust there'll be no issues with changing the order so early, expecting a call on Tues so I'll keep you all posted. Thanks again for your responses, all very helpful. Feel free to continue posting if you can beat the figures quoted .... ;p

I did a trip back from Bavaria with the the car having only 2500 miles on it and got 538 miles out of it. That's 10 miles after zero was displayed on the MFA, i was to chicken to run it dry even with a spare can on board! I was averaging an indicated 75 mph, continental roads are far superior than British ones.

Many thanks one and all for your advice/info. I have today changed the order, in doing so incurred a £720 canx fee on the diesel but sod it I thought!

Just wait for a date now till the 200ps black beauty arrives....!

I've done about 900 miles and I'm getting 29.6mpg, there has been a lot of town driving and a few high speed Autobahn runs so I'm more than happy with it.

That's not quite TDI land.

Cruising at between 50 and 60mph in traffic on my 40 mile commute the TDI is comfortably in the high fifties mpg.

Driving it moderately hard on the same run of A and B roads, overtaking and pushing it through the bends, it averages 48mpg.

Thrash it and it drops to high thirties.

None of these figures are as good as I got from the 1.9 TDI PD 130 SEAT. I think the VW's a little heavier, and perhaps the DPF that VW have stuffed up the 2.0 TDI exhaust doesn't help either.

We recently took a friend's 1.9 TDI PD 130 Mk4 Golf through France and back and managed almost 70mpg - quite remarkable economy!

Well my MPG is crapola!!!!
I've got the TSi 2.0 and get 24mpg average on my journey to work and back. I've only done 1100 miles but the best I have had is 33mpg on a 270 mile run not exceeding 85MPH.
