Post by gunnermatt »

Morning all, anyone know exactly what cable i need for VCDS?

lots of £5 Chinese ones on ebay, but are they going to work? or is it worth spending £50 on a genuine one?

What cable you need?!?! What do you mean what cable?! If you mean what I think you do - Micro-CAN could be what you need:

yeah you may be right maybe this is still not an official one

I just wonder what the difference is between the £5 ones and then £200 for a genuine one, its just a USB cable right... seems crazy the genuine ones cost so much.

It may seem crazy.
But its your car you are messing with at the end of the day. Is it really worth the risk if it all went tits up?

The non-genuine ones are locked down to one version of the VCDS software, you cant upgrade etc etc...

There has only been one occasion of a member reporting his electrical systems got messed up by a fake cable - only one that I remember anyway.

I wouldnt touch a fake cable with a barge pole!!

You have to weigh what you need the cable for against its cost... I have carried out a fair few mods on my car, so that £200+ I paid was worth it!! Giving that not many have the cable round my way
