Hi All,
Been eyeing up purchasing a Scirocco for a long time but not really had the money to do so.

I have about 15K MAX available at the moment and I was wondering what you guys think I could get for my money? and what I should be looking out for.

Currently I have an old MK4 Golf 1.8T which I still love, its not modded but does have a Revo remap so goes well and it still serves me well. My car has the Recaro seats (heated), winter pack, cruise control, air con all features I would love to keep when upgrading to a Rocco if possible.

I have been scouring Auto Trader and such looking at Rocco's but for my price range not sure what I should be expecting to get for my money.

i.e. Year, Mileage, Spec, Engine, Gadgets.

if you were to ask me what to lookout for when purchasing a used golf I could tell you a number of things that tend to break or need replacing or changed at certain points, if anyone could point out a few things to look out for when purchasing a Rocco that seem to be common issues that would be good.

Apologies my first post is asking for help but I dont want to buy a ringer and regret it.

You can get a nice one for this money and you should have a wide choice. I spent £13,500 last summer on mine at a used car outfit and you can see the spec in my signature. Basically I got a 3.5 year old TDi 140, GT trim, with DSG and leather (a decent spec) which is a great cruiser. I wasn't bothered which engine I got (though I'd avoid the 1.4 122hp), as I wanted DSG and leather first, but there's no doubt all the engines have different characters with the 2.0 TSi being a very brisk GTi alternative. In summary you have enough in your budget to get a well cared-for example with service history and warranty, and being VW, although they have niggles, there are no shocking problems to avoid. Personally im used to about 180bhp, my 1.8T was 150 stock but with the remap im guessing its about 180. I do want something that puts a smile on my face so engine probably does matter for me.

DSG would be nice but not a decider for me, never used it but would be fun. I would like phone prep, cruise control on the steering wheel and a R or GTi styling.

I dont know whether I should be looking at 2010, 11, 12 models or what for my price range. I dont want to be buying anything over 50k mileage mind.

Looking at auto trader there are some huge difference in prices for similar models and im not sure what im missing between the two on why they are so different in price. The interiors on some models look great on other not so much, not sure if its the R styling on some or just want spec they have chose.

Hi, might not be for you but I have a 13 Plate 2.0 GT TDI in Black, a little high on miles (which you mentioned may be too high for you)at 51700 but has just been serviced has FVWSH & is a real genuine bargain! Great spec with nav, heated leather, cruise, parking aid, DAB, folding mirrors etc, never damaged & NO Finance! £14000. If you may be interested I can fill you in on all the details. Thanks

I just bought an 11 plate 2.0 TSI with 22k miles, leather, nav, rear parking sensors and electric drivers seat. Paid just over £15k for it from a main VW dealer. I noticed that white ones are cheaper than the rising blue that I went for as there's so many more available. The difference in interior might be from the 09 to 10 plate cars, they changed the steering wheel and a few other bits at this time and the new one is much nicer.

1 tip for you, if you buy from a VW dealer, get £5000 worth of finance as they then throw in 3 free services. You can pay off the finance in one lump sum straight away and you keep the services. I did this and basically got 3 services for £143.

Also, you say you want phone prep, the advert on the dealers website said mine had phone prep but it actually didn't, got them to knock money off for this error so definitely worth keeping an eye out for that. You can check the original spec that the car was built with by calling VW head office.

I purchased a 2010 2.0tsi DSG scirocco for £13 750 in June. It had 22k on the clock.

The only extra was some 19" lugano alloys. I was after a car with cruise control & bluetooth but found them to be few and far between (on a car around that age)

After months and months of searching online I haven't regretted it once.

danielabbott89 has just reminded me, I wanted one with Bluetooth as well but as it was hard to find I eventually got it without and have a fella coming to my work tomorrow to fit it, that's costing about £350 so factor that in if you want it and the perfect car doesn't have it.

Yes, same here, I wanted phone prep (bluetooth) and cruise control but didn't find a car with either on in my price range. Agree that the original poster should enjoy the 2.0TSi, more power than his 1.8T 180.

Welcome,

As others have said you could look to get a good Roc 14-15k with majority of Extras. I would recommend the 2.0 tsi which I have myself. Quick car aswell as comfortable. The extras to look for are the RNS510 (Nav) and bluetooth, Leather heated seats, Dynaudio, DSG semiauto box and sunroof. You may want to keep any eye out for Xenon headlights but these can be quite rare.

When I purchased mine i made sure i looked for the 2009 and newer models. These came with updated MFD and upgraded steering wheel.

Can also highly recommend a Revo stage 1 remap + a milltek catback once you are ready to start modding

Hi mate, im afraid 50k miles was really a MAX figure for me and would like to find a lot lower if possible. Shame as sounds a nice spec! Do the folding mirrors come as standard on certain models or is it just an added option? would be a nice feature to have, probably hard to retro fit?

Thanks for the tip on the finance! I am looking at dealers as I want peace of mind when purchasing as 15k is no small change for me, but Auto Trader has a much bigger range to choose from

probably will be a dealer purchase for me to be fair even if I have to wait a few months for the right one to come up.

danielabbott89, jackhay bluetooth, cruise control seem to be hard to find indeed! adding either as search filter on the VW used website and it takes my search results down to 0

All info appreciated guys, im a choosy bugger may take some weeks/months for me to find the right one, doesnt seem to be much in my area at the moment (west midlands) not in the dealers anyway and for my price range. i'll be checking these forums regularly eitherway

Electric folding mirrors are an option on all models. They can be retro-fitted and member UKLEE on here has done an excellent guide on how to do it. Whether it's worth the hassle / expense is down to each individual.

£350 doesn't sound too bad. For the amount of times that I would actually use it though I don't think I could justify paying that.

No worries thought it may be too high miles for you.
For the right person who doesn't do too many miles it will make a great buy as it was just shy of £26000 after discount 19 months ago!
Ps, The Electric Mirrors were about £150 option

Going to test drive a Rocco soon but I have never driven a DSG box.

Should I test drive a Manual or DSG? I am unsure on the whole DSG thing thinking of just sticking with Manual.

Anyone have any regrets on DSG or wish they had stayed with Manual?

I had regrets for quite a while mate until I spent a week driving a manual insignia - now I just want it back

Plus the noise on gear change is incredible!

You really need to take a DSG car on an extended test drive to see if you like it. To get the best out of it you do need to change your driving style slightly as it has a couple of minor quirks. Also, slightly more expensive for maintenance as it needs an oil and filter change every 40k miles, which costs circa £180.

I loved it in my R32 but decided to go back to a manual for my Scirocco. With my next car, I''ll probably go back to DSG as I do miss it☺

Thanks for replying guys, I enjoy gear changes in a manual and when I have had to drive the odd automatic as a hire car at work I hate it, dont know where to put me left foot its un-natural. But the automatics I have driven havent had paddle gear shifts so this might make me change my mind.

Found two Rocco's which look good on price and spec, both being DSG which if 1 of them were Manual I probably would have gone and impulsed purchased it. Trying to be sensible and do some research and testing before shelling out all my cash

but also dont want to miss out on a deal as this time a year im sure a bargain can be found.

Personally I love the DSG box. Part of my commute is very stop-start so it makes that part very easy work.

You can push the stick over to the left which puts it in manual mode which I find myself doing quite a bit. Gear changes are very quick but still smooth. Glad I went for the DSG.
