RNS510 Problems, possible firmware upgrade?? (Solved)

Post by FoxL »

Hi all, looking for some advice. My RNS510 nav sometimes works and sometimes plots me in the sea somewhere. I've been doing some reading and have seen people say it could be an aerial problem or a firmware upgrade.

What would you suggest to try first? Also with a firmware upgrade how do you find out what version you are currently running and can you update to the latest version or do you have to go through the different versions one by one?

Thanks! :hyper:

Also wondered if I could update the maps and not the firmware and would they still work on whatever version it has installed, probably the one that was factory, nov 2009.

So took out the aerial and plugged it back in again and the sat nav was in the correct position but when I started driving my nav said I was going through and across roads instead of down them and at one point I mannaged to drive in the sea while I was going down a bypass. Could anyone suggest anythings? Maybe getting a new aerial? It's seems to have Alzheimer's :?

One of James Bond's adversaries had an encoder to move the GPS signals. That could put you in the sea. Ah now hang on you're not in the sea but the GPS thinks you are, it's the other way round. Sorry to waste your time.

I have heard of a similar issue before and in that case it was the car speed.signal (GALA) from the car was not being received by the headunit.

I recently updated both my maps and firmware. Map update is easy, the latest version is v12 now. But the firmware update is a little problematic.

I have a RNS510 (p version). The default fw version was 5218. I try update this version to 5274 but the update process did not completed successfully. Then I updated my fw to 5238. Now I have the same error. My navigation fist indicated me in Germany (regensburg syndrome) I reset the machine a few times, now when I start the car the machine indicates me at home :) and does not works when the car is moving. If you have a solution pls tell me :/

I got a new aerial off ebay and fitted it yesterday and all seems to be working now  I hope it stays this way.
